Senior Director, Grant and Contract Compliance

Sesame Workshop is looking for a Senior Director, Grant and Contract Compliance. The senior director will oversee Sesame Workshop’s compliance program with a focus on donor requirements and regulations. This role is responsible for leading our compliance efforts and ensuring stewardship of philanthropic funding in furtherance of Sesame Workshop’s mission. This position will report to the Senior Vice President, Head of Strategy & Social Impact and Philanthropy Operations, and will work closely with department heads, the Chief Financial Officer, General Counsel, and Chief Human Resources Officer.

Responsibilities
- Actively monitor Sesame Workshop’s portfolio of grants and contracts to ensure compliance with award terms, regulatory requirements, donor policies, and other applicable requirements
- Develop, update, review, and test organizational policies to align with award, regulatory, and other applicable requirements (including, but not limited to, policies relating to procurement, cost allowability, travel, sanctions compliance, document retention, and subaward management)
- Working closely with Operations, Philanthropic Development, Finance, Human Resources, and Legal Departments to develop and implement solutions and controls for maintaining donor compliance and mitigating organizational risk
- Review project budgets, expense reporting, procurement, and other internal processes to ensure ongoing donor compliance
- Develop and conduct ongoing training programs to support compliant management of grants and contracts
- Oversee internal monitoring, compliance review, reporting out, and audit programs, as needed
- Provide expert advice and guidance in matters related to donor inquiries, audits, and compliance-related issues
- Support compliant and effective management of sub recipients and subcontractors, including facilitating pre-award assessment and post-award monitoring activities
- Remain current on applicable and pending laws, policies, regulations, and trends
- Potential for broader organization-wide compliance and risk management responsibilities in the future (individual contributor role, with potential for hiring a 1-2 staff as function grows and develops)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; Advanced degree in law, finance/accounting, and/or another related field desired, but not required
- 10+ years of experience with donor compliance programs, ideally but not limited to work in humanitarian and/or international development settings
- Proven and extensive knowledge of Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (2 CFR 200) and other accepted contracting and subcontracting principles and practices
- Proven and extensive knowledge of the FAR and AIDAR
- Knowledge of federal auditing requirements (2 CFR 200 Subpart F) and awareness of current federal auditing standards (Yellow Book)
- Experience with complex awards, grants, and fixed price agreements, including those from USAID, other federal agencies, FCDO, and UN agencies
- Experience developing business workflows and approval processes, as well as organizational policies and procedures
- Knowledge of GAAP and financial activities at nonprofit organizations
- Excellent business writing skills
- Computer skills include Microsoft Office
