Payroll Manager

Finance: Accounting Operations | New York, NY | Full Time

Job Description
Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Payroll Manager will oversee payroll for all Sesame Workshop full-time, part-time and production employees across various payroll processes and systems as well as assist in managing the Workshop’s 401k and 457b plans. This position will work closely with the Finance and Human Resource departments to identify ways to streamline and automate processes including managing employee benefit and tax withholding, time tracking and PTO as well as tracking payroll expenses.

  • Process the Season Union Weekly and Semi-Monthly Payroll with Cast & Crew
  • Process the Non-Season Weekly Payroll via ADP (4FX)
  • Submit monthly to IATSE 401k deductions, dues, pension and welfare payments that have been processed via ADP
  • Processing stop payments or adjustments of payroll
  • Reconcile IRS form 941 with ADP Statement of Deposit
  • Reconcile actual salary expense per ADP/GL to quarterly forecasts
  • Ensure that computing, withholding, and union deductions are done correctly
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related duties as needed
  • Assist in various functions of payroll processing including entry of time, invoice, residual and royalty payments (64J)
  • Create and upload into Netsuite the necessary journal entries (both pay and FICA) for the non-season union payroll (4FX)
  • Upload Cast & Crew invoices into Cast & Crew PSL after both union and non-union season payroll has been processed
  • Utilize ADP Custom Reporting to run ad hoc reports for various departments; requires knowledge of the system to locate desired fields and apply filters to reports
  • Provide a high level of customer service and employee relations based on outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
  • Maintain confidential information
  • Process manual checks through both ADP and JP Morgan Chase
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent work experience
  • 5 - 7 years of payroll experience
  • Working knowledge of payroll tax and 401k compliance requirements
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • Proficient in Excel (Pivot Tables, LOOKUP formulas, etc.)
  • Expert knowledge in Payroll software (preferably ADP Workforce Now and Cast and Crew)
  • Experience with Accounts Payable a plus
  • Experience with Netsuite and/or Concur a plus
