Manager, Education, Humanitarian Programs

Job Description

Sesame Workshop is seeking an experienced Manager, Education, Humanitarian Programs. His/her work will focus on Sesame Workshop’s humanitarian initiatives, supporting programming for children and caregivers in Bangladesh and the Middle East. The position is based in New York, NY, with travel to the regions of work as needed. The Manager, Education will be responsible for supporting program design and educational content development for a large-scale early childhood development program that leverages the power of play-based learning to achieve measurable outcomes for children.

 

The right candidate will have a proven track record developing nuanced and well-researched educational frameworks targeting both cognitive and non-cognitive outcomes and creating and reviewing multimedia educational content against specified learning objectives. The Manager will report to the Senior Manager, Humanitarian Programs. 

 

Responsibilities Include:

 

Multimedia Content Development

  • Support senior education staff in the development and execution of content strategy and intervention design for humanitarian initiatives

  • Support the development of project curriculum and educational content (video and print) for children, caregivers, and facilitators that are aligned with existing global curricula and intended project outcomes

  • Manage material development process with local contractors

  • Review Mass Media Scripts to ensure adherence to the curriculum and Sesame Workshop education standards

  • Engage with project team, partners, and advisors (educators, psychologists, language specialists, etc.) to review and strengthen multimedia learning materials for children, parents/caregivers, and practitioners (e.g. video, variety of print, etc.)

  • Provide input on research and monitoring materials, and interpret stakeholder feedback and data in order to inform project improvements, in partnership with the project team and partners

  • Lead administrative processes related to the above, including drafting timelines and work plans, submitting and tracking project contracts, submitting and tracking project payments, preparing presentations and fact sheets for diverse audiences, writing summary reports, communicating effectively with multidisciplinary teams, and scheduling internal meetings

   

Program Quality

  • Ensure that project interventions and content are informed by Sesame Workshop experience, desk research, and needs assessment data, collaborating with Sesame teams and partners

  • Advise on project monitoring activities, in collaboration with project partners and research team, to ensure that education interventions are implemented according to program design

  • Engage with project consultants, ensuring the delivery of work, managing quality of deliverables, and serving as their liaison with Sesame Workshop education team members

  • Represent the project’s education team at working-level meetings and external events such as conferences and stakeholder meetings, and conference calls

   

Qualifications


  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience in international education, curriculum development, education in conflict settings, or a related field

  • Master’s degree in International Education, International Development, Public Health, or related field or equivalent experience

  • Professional experience in designing and delivering early childhood education, parenting programs, teacher training and/or related services in low-resource, humanitarian, emergency, and/or post-emergency settings

  • Professional experience working with refugee and displaced populations 

  • Excellent organizational skills, including keen attention to detail and the ability to manage time effectively, track and follow-up on various tasks, and multi-task

  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Office, file transfer and sharing technology, and web-based communication and call tools

  • Excellent written and oral communication and relationship management skills

  • Willingness to travel and work in low-resource settings (up to 30%)

  • Ability to work effectively in multi-cultural settings, demonstrating respect for and interest in leveraging varied approaches to early learning and education

   

Desirable

 

  • Experience in curriculum development and/or content review for multimedia production
  • Experience working in humanitarian settings (experience in Rohingya response region or Syria response region a plus)

  • Knowledge of learning through play and play-based pedagogical approaches

  • Knowledge of one or more foreign languages, preferably with direct project relevance
