Director, Program Monitoring & Evaluation

Sesame Workshop is looking for a Director, Program Monitoring and Evaluation. Sesame Workshop seeks a passionate and collaborative individual to oversee its Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) activities for the Play to Learn initiative, a large 5-year, multi-partner grant funded by the LEGO Foundation to support early childhood development programming in humanitarian settings, specifically reaching refugees and host communities in Bangladesh, Lebanon, and Jordan.
The Director of Program Monitoring and Evaluation will lead on developing, refining an overseeing a harmonized MEL framework across multiple partners involved in the Play to Learn initiative. Working closely with partners, the Director will design a harmonized monitoring framework that ensures partner alignment and / or harmonization on monitoring indicators, approaches and tools, and which has the ability to extract comparable data that can be leveraged for learning moments to refine program design and implementation, as well as capture learning for the broader humanitarian community.
- Coordinate with partners to ensure the robust functioning of the initiative’s MEL framework, including alignment and refinement of monitoring indicators and tools, the establishment of a plan for monitoring project progress, analysis of data, and highlighting programmatic lessons learned.
- Support the project team in the creation of monitoring tools for Sesame Workshop-led activities.
- Create and manage database to manage all monitoring data
- Collaborate with the project team to identify essential project activities, processes, and outcomes to document, and design a system for capturing lessons learned and best practices
- In collaboration with partners, regularly analyze monitoring data, and extrapolate observations in preparation for semi-annual learning meetings.
- Plan and facilitate semi-annual learning meetings that leverage lessons from all partners across geographies for the purposes of identifying best practices, improving program implementation and capturing learning that can be shared with the wider humanitarian sector.
- As required, manage any staff based in Bangladesh to support monitoring and data collection.
- Advanced degree in a relevant discipline (statistics, evaluation science, public policy, social sciences, political science, or other similar experience
- At least 7 years of demonstrated experience designing, and implementing monitoring and evaluation activities in developing countries; experience in MEL in humanitarian contexts highly desired
- Excellent command of monitoring and evaluation methodologies;
- Previous experience implementing and managing a rigorous MEL system including developing and refining performance monitoring plans is required;
- Knowledge of data collection protocols to ensure accurate data collection and verification; ability to identify data trends and communicate this information for strategic decision-making in program implementation;
- Previous experience in ECD and/or Education programming in humanitarian responses highly desired.
- Previous experience in monitoring consortium or multi-partner programs, highly desired.
- Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills to manage project communications and disseminate project information are required.
- Excellent skills in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- English language fluency required. Knowledge of another working program language (e.g. Arabic, Bangla or Rohingya) desired but not necessary.
Sesame Workshop has been awarded a $100 million grant from the LEGO Foundation to support a new early childhood development initiative for millions of children affected by the Rohingya and Syrian refugee crises. The 5-year program will leverage the power of learning through play, providing communities affected by refugee crises access to vital early learning opportunities. Together with BRAC and the IRC, we will reach displaced and host community children and their caregivers in Bangladesh and the Syrian response region through direct services and mass media programming. The program will also include robust research and advocacy components aimed at identifying best practices for play-based learning in humanitarian response and encouraging sustainable investment in early childhood development.
