Director, Domestic Foundation Development

 

The DIRECTOR, DOMESTIC FOUNDATION DEVELOPMENT at Sesame Workshop will be responsible for working collaboratively with the VP, Domestic Philanthropic Development and the Development team to build and strengthen the Workshop’s presence through fundraising and engagement efforts for US-based initiatives from private and corporate foundations and government agencies.  This role will require and understanding of the philanthropic landscape in order to develop strategic plan for foundation giving efforts at Sesame Workshop. In addition, the role will oversee and lead foundation cultivation and stewardship activities.

This is a unique opportunity for a dedicated, entrepreneurial, results-oriented relationship builder to make a significant impact at an iconic not-for-profit.  The Director, Domestic Foundation Development, will assist in pipeline building, grant writing, prospect management, and stewardship, all while collaboratively working with internal partners to seek opportunities for broader engagement.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Build funder pipeline and uncover sources of new prospects to support Sesame Workshop Domestic Social Impact work

  • Manage relationships with other teams to coordinate and promote program integration

  • Contribute to Domestic Philanthropic Development team strategy and revenue goals

  • Mentor and contribute to the Development team’s collaborative environment

 

Qualifications:

  • 5-8 years of experience in Foundation fundraising, relationship building, and prospect management

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team

  • Excellent grant writing, verbal, and presentation skills

  • Understands stewardship of current funders and new prospects

  • Possesses current relationships with the US funding community

  • Self-starter with sound judgment and creative thinking

  • Familiarity with Salesforce CRM software or equivalent software

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: strong social skills a must; ability to interact -- with professionalism -- with a variety of personalities both internally and externally

  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills required

  • Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree preferred

  • Ability to travel –Approximately 20%
