Book Editor (Licensed Publishing)

Job Description

Sesame Workshop is looking for a children’s Editor to join the publishing team in support of an active licensing program for the most trusted preschool brand in the market. This position will work closely with the Editorial Director to help maintain and expand the publishing portfolio, as well as interact closely with Sesame’s Creative and Research departments and the rest of the domestic licensing department to maximize opportunities.

The ideal candidate is deeply engaged with children’s media and familiar with the current landscape, along with an understanding of the editorial process, willing to jump into projects as they speed along, and is a creative and flexible thinker.  This position is located at our NYC Headquarters.



  • Manage 25 to 30 editorial projects a year from 15+ publishers in a wide variety of formats, including storybook, sound, cloth, and novelty
  • Review and revise concepts, outlines, and manuscripts
  • Coordinate internal art review with Creative Services
  • Consult with Research at critical stages and reconcile comments
  • Work closely with external partners to bring projects to the finish line
  • Hit all internal and external deadlines
  • Support Editorial Director in managing publishing relationships, including attendance at relevant conferences
  • 5% travel



  • 5 years of editorial experience
  • Excellent line editing, copyediting, and proofreading skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Comfortable with the MS Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • Familiarity with licensed publishing a plus
  • Familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite a plus
