Assistant Controller, Corporate Finance & Accounting

Job Description

Sesame Workshop is looking for an Assistant Controller to lead the organization’s corporate financial reporting and accounting processes. Candidate must have a current Certified Public Accountancy. We are looking for a self-starter, highly motivated, and detailed professional to oversee the Corporate accounting group.  


  • Process owner for full financial cycles for all corporate areas (Finance, Technology and Engineering, Facilities, Human resources, Legal, Strategy and Research) including working with department heads to prepare annual budgets, lead monthly and quarterly accounting close processes and prepare quarterly budget reforecasts.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual consolidated financial reports including consolidating financial statements and related account analysis. Prepare and present variance analysis of actual and forecast results against budget
  • Lead Annual financial statement audit process (inclusive of Uniform Guidance audit), including preparation of lead schedules and coordination of audit support
  • Preparation of required tax returns including IRS Form 990 and 990T, and related state returns
  • Ongoing compliance with:
    • Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures
    • Uniform Grant Guidance (2 CFR 200)
    • Relevant domestic and international tax laws
  • Manage chargeback processes to allocated service department to profit center P&L’s
  • Oversee corporate allocations during quarterly closes and forecasts  
  • Systems Oversight:  General Ledger (Netsuite) and IBM’s TM1 Planning Analytics


  • Certified Public Accountant with 5-8 years of experience  
  • Continued professional education credits (CPE) up to date either in audit, tax, or accountancy 
  • Working knowledge of: NetSuite or other comparable or general ledger system (SAP etc); IBM’s TM1 Planning Analytics or comparable Reporting and Budgeting software system; high proficiency in Excel
  • Sharp acumen for analysis, detail oriented, ability to connect with personnel at varying levels
  • Motivated, team player, leadership capabilities yet also willing and able to be involved at the detail level of work
  • Prior experience as Assistant Controller/Controller or experienced associate from audit firm a plus
