Job Description

Mobile Developer - iOS

Imagine a world where creative play is the most valued part of childhood. This is the future Seedling is building.

Seedling is looking for a Mobile Developer with a strong skill set in iOS that is passionate about creating consumer software. Interest in creating experiences that engage and challenge kids to be creative is a must! An interest in hardware is a plus but not the core focus of the role.

Why do we need this role? At Seedling, we encourage kids to create with every tool in the toolbox, including technology. That's why we make groundbreaking products that merge tactile materials with advancing technologies, like virtual reality and augmented reality. These products are designed to help families put the child in control of the experience, and step into the role of builder, designer, creator and inventor. After all, visionaries aren't born, they're nurtured! We believe this role is crucial to the success of delivering on our promise to families.

Seedling’s applications are built entirely in Swift, utilize ARKit and 3rd-party AR libraries for real-time image tracking, and adopt modern design patterns and engineering best practices.

  • Build on our suite of AR-enabled iOS apps and participate in technical discussions on developing product features

  • Collaborate with product and design to create best-in-class mobile applications

  • Contribute to iterations on product UX as we run usability tests with kids

  • Collaborate with our physical product team to devise new ways to allow for interaction between mobile technologies and real-world products

  • Research and test new frameworks and technologies (like ARKit, Core ML, 3rd-party AR/VR libraries, etc...)

  • Ensure the performance and quality of all applications, while maintaining code quality and best engineering practices

  • Promote and implement standards in Swift development and delivery

  • Professional experience shipping and iterating on mobile applications (we are less focused on the number of years of experience and more focused on the quality of applications, so a strong GitHub account, published App Store apps or prototypes you can show us will be important)

  • Proficient with Swift

  • Experience with core iOS frameworks such as UIKit, Core Animation, AVFoundation, Grand Central Dispatch, etc.

  • Understanding of Apple’s design principles and interface guidelines

  • Great communication skills and a history of teamwork and collaboration

  • Being a self-starter, working well with minimal oversight

  • Experience with Android (Kotlin/Java) development

  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs to connect iOS applications to back-end services

  • Experience or passion for the children’s app, toy, game or education space

  • Creative office space in the heart of Downtown LA’s Arts District

  • The opportunity to join a small team and be a part of our growth

  • Excellent health, dental, and vision benefits

  • Flexible work environment to support parents’ priorities

  • Snacks and coffee, lunch on Fridays and team events

  • 3 weeks of paid vacation time
