Job Summary

This position reports directly to the Chief Lending Officer and is responsible for ensuring all consumer lending policies and procedures are in strict compliance with State and Federal lending laws and regulations and best serve the Credit Union and our Members. Responsibilities include managing the day-to-day consumer loan operation and providing leadership, guidance, and coaching to the staff. The position will develop, recommend and implement lending policies and products as well as monitor and analyze economic conditions affecting both the loan department and the loan portfolio performance in order to recommend and implement appropriate action.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Provide solutions and process improvements when formulating and maintaining loan procedures (for the consumer loan department) that are up-to-date with all current regulations and internal control requirements

• Manage, recommend and implement all consumer lending-related programs and delivery channels (including but not limited to: indirect lending, online applications, debt protection products, collateral protection programs and, default insurance programs)

• Identify risks and trends in existing portfolios and recommend solutions

• Participate in compliance, audits and other related enterprise-wide initiatives

•Develop procedures and reporting tools to optimize performance of consumer loan portfolio and service goals. Research and evaluate feasibility of new lending products and develop and implement plans for expansion of lending programs

• Utilize professional and friendly communication to ensure exceptional internal and external customer service in all interactions

• Conduct and report on audits of loan files of loan quality and adherence to consumer lending policies

• Design and lead staff training to ensure that all consumer loan policies, procedures, services, products, delivery channels and documentation meet federal and state regulations

• Participate in Community Share events and identify other business development activities to contribute to the Credit Union’s exposure as the Bay Area's Lender of Choice

• Actively partner and collaborate with Branch and Service Center Management to make certain lending delivery through branch and call center channels are efficient and consistent

• Display in-depth knowledge, positive energy and engagement when facilitating consumer lending training, leading staff meetings, hiring, coaching and developing the Consumer Lending staff

• Actively stay current on industry trends and competition relating to consumer lending

• Establish and measure service level standards and productivity of the Consumer Lending team with metrics reporting and accountability measures

• Supervise the processing and funding of loans to assure compliance with policy and regulations

• Oversee and direct the work of key individuals in all consumer lending areas (to include underwriting, loan processing, loan documentation, and approval or denial of consumer loans)

• Provide consumer lending content for monthly lending summary and ensure that member education is delivered on a consistent basis

• Performs other duties as assigned


Education and Experience

• Seven (7) years of related experience in lending management required

• Five (5) or more years at a management position in a financial institution preferred

• Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in business administration or finance from a four-year college or university and/or, equivalent combination of education, training and related work experience

Knowledge, Abilities & Skill Requirements

• Demonstrated knowledge in all aspects of consumer lending rules, practices and procedures and current with Federal and State laws and regulations to ensure compliance of consumer loan products and services

• Thorough knowledgeable in regulatory requirements regarding consumer lending including: Reg Z, Reg B, ECOA, FACTA and SCRA

• Must possess strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills able to interact with staff and members in a professional, approachable and positive manner

• Demonstrated problem-solving skills and abilities in order to identify, evaluate and implement solutions

• Proficient in project management and resource coordination in order to achieve organizational goals

• Must possess high degree of confidentiality and ethical standards

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, supervise and exercise effective leadership to the department

• Technically savvy, energetic, forward-thinking and creative with an appropriate professional image
