Business Development Manager

Position Summary

The Business Development Manager leads the strategic growth and community engagement efforts of the credit union by overseeing the development and execution of initiatives that attract and retain members through relationships with select employer groups (SEGs), community partners, and local organizations. This role is responsible for managing the Business Development Representative(s), directing outreach strategies, coordinating events, tracking performance metrics, and partnering cross-functionally to ensure alignment with organizational goals. The Manager acts as a brand ambassador, cultivating relationships that drive sustained membership growth and enhance the credit union’s presence across the communities we serve.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a business development strategy aligned with the credit union’s goals for SEG engagement, membership growth, and community impact.

  • Lead, coach, and develop the Business Development team, setting clear goals, monitoring performance, and supporting professional growth.

  • Establish and maintain high-value partnerships with SEGs, nonprofit organizations, chambers of commerce, and local business networks to increase membership and brand visibility.

  • Oversee and participate in community outreach events, including financial education seminars, sponsorships, and tabling opportunities, ensuring high-quality representation of the credit union.

  • Collaborate with marketing and branch leadership to design and implement campaigns, promotional strategies, and onboarding tools tailored to community and SEG needs.

  • Analyze and report on business development outcomes, including membership acquisition, SEG penetration, event ROI, and referral effectiveness; adjust strategies accordingly.

  • Maintain oversight of CRM tools and business development tracking systems, ensuring accurate documentation of relationships, leads, and outcomes.

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act and other applicable financial industry standards.

  • Serve as a thought partner to the executive team, providing insights and recommendations to enhance growth strategies, member engagement, and service delivery.


Who Are You?

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in business development, community relations, or sales in a financial services or related industry, including at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.

  • Strong understanding of credit union philosophy, products, and services.

  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining strategic relationships that drive business outcomes.

  • Proficient in event planning and outreach coordination with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.

  • Skilled in team leadership, performance management, and employee development.

  • Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot) is preferred.

  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for events, with flexibility in schedule and travel across branch and community locations.

  • High level of professionalism, initiative, and adaptability.
