Service Coordinator

Assembly-Service-Quality (ASQ) | Alameda, CA | Full Time | From $75,000.00 to $85,000.00 per year

Job Description

About Us

At Saildrone, we sustainably explore, map, and monitor the oceans to understand, protect, and preserve our world. We provide real-time access to critical data from any ocean on earth, 24/7/365, and use proprietary software applications to transform that data into actionable insights and intelligence. Our fleet of uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs), powered by renewable wind and solar power, have a minimal carbon footprint and operate without the need for a crewed support vessel.

Saildrone works with governments, civil agencies, foundations, universities, and private companies around the globe to drive better information about our oceans and seas—from sailing into the eye of a category 4 hurricane to obtain new data about how storms intensify, collecting new CO2 data in hard-to-reach areas, and counting fish biomass to inform sustainable fishery management, to mapping the ocean floor and reducing illegal fishing and drug trafficking. As a result of our work, we have been included on TIME's List of the 100 Most Influential Companies in 2024, Fast Company’s list of the "World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2022," and earned the Ocean Awards’ Innovation Award, presented by the Blue Marine Foundation. Saildrone's hurricane mission was included as one of The New York Times' "Top 21 Things that happened (for the first time) in 2021" and Popular Science's "100 Greatest Innovations of 2021," and entered into the Guinness Book of World Records for recording the "highest windspeed recorded by a USV."

We are based in Alameda, CA, with offices in Washington DC and St. Petersburg, FL, and operate our missions worldwide. Saildrone is backed by top-tier investors in the frontier tech and sustainability sectors, including Social Capital, Capricorn, Lux Capital, BOND Capital, and Emerson Collective.

This is an exciting opportunity with a fast-growing team at the cutting-edge intersection of big data services and autonomous hardware. You will be an integral part of a high-performing multi-disciplinary team that delivers high impact for humanity and future generations.

The Role

Saildrone's autonomous surface vehicles operate for unprecedented periods of time in the most unforgiving environments on the planet. From inside of hurricanes to the frigid waters of the Arctic, they endure immense stresses. To ensure the drones we subject to these conditions work as intended, we must execute assembly and service operations with a high degree of rigor. To achieve this rigor, we must plan and prepare to execute field operations with diligence. We must develop the most detailed scope of work possible for each assembly or service event. As Saildrone’s Service Coordinator it will be your responsibility to set conditions for the success of Saildrone’s field teams by developing and documenting these field operation plans.

You will collaborate with production and maritime operations teams as you develop requirements to execute field assembly and service events. You will apply your unwavering attention-to-detail and knowledge of the platform to ensure our technicians have the scope of work, tools, parts, and support to be effective in the field. You will ensure our operations plans are thoroughly documented and transacted in the relevant digital systems to generate data necessary to run our business.

Responsibilities

  • Set up Saildrone’s Assembly & Service team for success by creating service plans, writing repair orders, and determining what parts are necessary to execute those plans.
  • Coordinate with Production and Operations teams to ensure those teams understand assembly and service requirements.
  • Maintain accuracy of our ERP and Fleet Management systems.
  • Assist in personnel scheduling and administration.

What We're Looking For

A top performer in this role will be highly motivated by and skilled in the following areas:

  • Unmatched attention-to-detail to the degree that you’re bothered by things like inconsistent formatting or picture frames that aren’t quite centered. The more organized we are, both in the real and digital worlds, the more effective we’ll be in executing field operations and generating quality data to inform business decisions.
  • Calm under pressure with an instinct towards positive collaboration and teamwork, despite dynamic and ever-changing conditions.
  • Professionally fulfilled by enabling the success of others.
  • Insatiable desire to learn more about the parts and configuration nuances that constitute a complex technical system.

Required Skills and Experience

Skills that are necessary to executing the core functions of this role are listed below.

  • Over 5 years of professional experience in planning and scheduling technical, post-manufacture work in a complex environment, such as an automotive service center or commercial/civil construction.
  • Experience documenting scope of work and maintaining records and inventory in digital enterprise resource and fleet management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a detailed understanding of the physical parts and configuration nuances of a complex system.
  • Possess an intuitive sense of priority and act on it to ensure focus and energy are allocated to the most important things.
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent years of role-relevant experience
  • Willing and able to work onsite daily at our Alameda HQ as well as work extended hours when necessary. U.S. person status is required for this role.

Desired Skills and Experience

Here's a non-exhaustive list of specific skills where prior knowledge and experience would lend itself to high performance:

  • Experience as a high throughput service advisor or work coordinator in industries that required a high-degree of detail-oriented configuration (automotive, commercial/civil construction, aerospace, defense technology)
  • Prior experience in a fast-paced, start-up environment. Comfortable executing ambiguous and ever-changing processes, while working to stabilize and standardize those processes.
  • Strong systems administration skills on one or more following systems: ERP (Netsuite, SAP), Fleet Management (Fleetio, ServiceNow), Atlassian product suite, collaborative work systems (MS Office, Google Suite)

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform data entry on a computer using a keyboard and peripheral devices. Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods as well as lift weights of up to 25 lbs.

Location: This position is in Alameda, CA. Our waterfront office offers beautiful views of San Francisco Bay in always sunny Alameda. Even our walls have good karma, our offices mix software development with a hardware production line in the former airplane hangar used to film 'The Matrix'.

Benefits:

  • Medical, dental and vision plans for you and your dependents.
  • Short and relaxing ferry ride from the Ferry Building for SF residents
  • Enhanced Parental Leave Programs
  • Competitive benefits including excellent medical, life insurance, 401k plan

A reasonable estimate of the current range is $75,000-$85,000 annually.
