Job Location:                       Store Support Center, Mattoon, IL

Reports to:                            VP of HR

FLSA Status:                        Salaried Exempt

Exempt Classification:        Administrative



The purpose of the Total Rewards Director is to develop and lead initiatives across compensation and benefits. This associate is responsible for ensuring competitiveness while maintaining cost efficiency, associate engagement, and aligning with Rural King's long-term strategy.


  • Lead a team across compensation, benefits, and associate branding to drive business performance, as well as comply with legal requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement through the development and implementation of compensation programs, payroll management and execution, and benefits to retain and attract talent
  • Propose and implement process and technology efficiencies to ensure highly accurate, compliant, and efficient HR practices
  • Manage, create, and maintain reporting initiatives to review financial metrics aligning with budget, evaluate current processes, and opportunities to improve
  • Promote the development of company policy that aligns with the organizational culture and strategic imperatives
  • Act as a brand ambassador for Rural King by leading projects to enhance our footprint and impact across our associates and the communities we serve
  • Lead our associates in a way that exemplifies the leadership principles taught in Thrive and reinforces Thrive skills with managers reporting to you
  • May be required to cross train and perform other duties


  • At least 10+ years of Total Rewards experience OR equivalent combination of experience and education is acceptable.
  • Ability to participate in our online applicant and new hire on-boarding process remotely
  • Ability to complete computer-based training
