JOB SUMMARY

At Rural King, we rely on our IT systems to drive our day-to-day operations to support the business at over 130 stores, multiple Distribution Centers, and our corporate location. We are seeking an experienced systems administrator who’s eager to use and grow his or her technological skills in a fast-paced and challenging environment. In this role, the successful individual will maintain our critical systems, build solutions, implement new software and hardware, and assist in the development of an overall IT strategy.

 

JOB DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Installing and configuring software, hardware and networks
  • Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, and virtualization
  • Install and upgrade computer components and software, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues
  • Perform server administration tasks, including user/group administration, security permissions, group policies, print services, research event log warnings and errors, and resource monitoring, ensuring system architecture components work together seamlessly
  • Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure
  • Perform regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures
  • Interact with the Desktop Services, Help Desk and other teams to assist in troubleshooting, identify root cause, and provide technical support when needed, making sure all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions
  • Responsible for capacity, storage planning, and database performance
  • Help build an internal wiki with technical documentation, manuals and IT policies

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience required
  • 3-5 years of database, network administration, or system administration experience
  • System administration and IT certifications in Linux, Microsoft, or other network related fields are a plus
  • Working knowledge of virtualization, VMWare, or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols
  • Experience with SQL Server and Database Management are a plus
  • Experience with scripting, PowerShell, and automation tools
  • A proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategy and plans
  • Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols
  • Knowledge of system security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery
  • Ability to create scripts in Python, Perl or other language
  • Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude
