Job Title:       Risk and Claims Coordinator

Reports To:   VP of Human Resources

Job Location: Headquarters, Mattoon, IL

FLSA Status: Exempt

                                                                                         

 JOB SUMMARY:

This position serves as the key contact for all insurance claim-related matters.  The purpose of the Risk and Claims Coordinator is to safeguard Rural King, its customers, associates, reputation, assets, and the interests of management by identifying and managing all threats to the achievement of the business objectives.  This involves all risk management including insurance purchasing. 

JOB DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for interacting with associates, customers, and insurance carriers regarding claims
  • Obtain necessary information required to expedite the claims process
  • Clearly document all activities on a claim, reserve changes, closing, lawsuits, etc.
  • Organize claim information effectively for easy retrieval
  • Follow up on claims until closed
  • As the decision maker, conduct premium and coverage negotiations through the insurance company
  • Coordinate insurance programs for all lines of coverage including property, casualty, and workers compensation
  • Coordinate the information flow between Rural King and the insurance carriers
  • Coordinate the identification, evaluation, monitoring, reduction, and elimination of professional and general liability risk exposures
  • Coordinate management of complex claims including strategy, proof of loss preparation, negotiation, and communication expectations to financial planning
  • Review loss and injury reports to detect trends and recommend programs to management for reducing future claims
  • Conduct updates of exposure values
  • Evaluate adequacy of retention, limits, and coverage terms and conditions
  • May be required to perform other duties

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years claims adjusting experience
  • Experience in multi-state insurance programs
  • Prior experience in self-insurance preferred
  • Experience creating and implementing company safety programs preferred
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, time management, and prioritization skills
  • Computer knowledge in Excel and Word
  • Ability to interact with the team in a fast paced environment, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient
  • Ability to multi-task and coordinate, analyze, observe, make decisions, and meet deadlines in a detail-oriented manner

  • General office equipment such as telephone, copy machine, fax machine, calculator, computer

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Good visual acuity and ability to communicate
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
  • May work under stressful circumstances at times
