Job Title:             Employment Law Specialist

Reports To:         Human Resources Director

Job Location:      Corporate Office, Mattoon, IL

FLSA Status:       Administrative Exempt

                                                                                                                                      

 

JOB SUMMARY:

This position administers various human resources plans and procedures related to employment law compliance.  This position assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures.

 

JOB DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment and labor law compliance
  • Provide guidance and recommendations for problem resolution to managers, including reviewing, correcting and approving disciplinary actions
  • Maintains feedback mechanisms to assure understanding of employee perceptions across the organization
  • Investigates problems such as working conditions, disciplinary actions, and associate and applicant appeals and complaints
  • Oversees employee related claims of mistreatment, including fact finding and determining appropriate responses
  • Oversees the maintenance of personnel files and I-9 Forms in compliance with applicable laws
  • Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed
  • Uses discretion and independent judgment in decisions
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relative field and 7+ years of experience in Human Resources or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years employment law experience within a large complex organization
  • Employment Lawyer preferred
  • Professional Certification of PHR, SPHR, or GPHR preferred
  • Word, Excel, and PowerPoint proficient
  • Excellent influencing and negotiation skills with the ability to effectively listen and communicate
