Distribution Center General Manager

Job Description

 JOB SUMMARY

The Distribution Center Manager oversees all operations of a Distribution Center, including the management of associates, inbound and outbound operations, warehouse, transportation, and office.  The Distribution Center Manager develops strategies and objectives to maximize productivity and leverage expenses for the company and guarantees the overall success of all aspects of the distribution center.

 

JOB DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Managing all aspects of the DC’s financial, operational, people and process and service-related objectives to drive continuous improvement and efficiency gains to reduce overall cost-to-serve
  • Participates in strategic and business process improvement projects for the distribution network
  • Partners to drive results and deliver solutions including Supply Chain, Operations, Merchandising, Finance, Human Resources, Asset Protection, and Stores; identify and share best practices across the Distribution network
  • Directly responsible for ensuring that Store and Customer needs are met, service is managed to KPIs
  • Ensure optimal performance and metrics are achieved
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of and recommends alternatives for work methods, procedures, controls and staffing to achieve accurate and timely movement and processing of product
  • Provide leadership and direction for all aspects of the distribution center
  • Drive continuous improvement with freight processing time and efficiency gains
  • Recommend alternatives for work methods, procedures, and controls to achieve accurate and timely movement and processing of product
  • Efficiently operate the warehouse management system and related equipment
  • Confirm inventory is received appropriately and efficiently
  • Ensure warehouse layout is optimally aligned for maximum efficiency as seasonality and inventory needs require
  • Schedule associates based on upcoming events and seasonal changes to achieve excellent customer service, accuracy, and on-time deliveries
  • Apply sound communication and motivational techniques in supervising and counseling associates
  • Ensure a culture of safety throughout the organization by following safety and OSHA policies and procedures
  • Provide outstanding customer service in terms of accuracy, timeliness, and responsiveness
  • Coordinate proper maintenance of equipment and building
  • Use discretion and independent judgment in making decisions
  • Operate forklift, pallet jack, and other warehouse equipment
  • Use various Microsoft software programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Use multiple software logistics programs such as Eagle and Latitude
  • Leads our associates in a way that exemplifies the leadership principles taught in Thrive and reinforces Thrive skills with managers reporting to you
  • May be required to cross-train and perform other duties

 

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ year’s broad distribution center management of 200+ associates and a bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

 

  • Knowledge of materials, warehouse processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective distribution of goods
  • Working knowledge with warehouse management systems
  • Previous change management experience (driving, influencing and inspiring change through communication at all impacted levels)
  • Analytical skills to include planning, organizing, directing and controlling workflow and processes
  • Ability to interact with the team in a fast-paced environment, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision
  • Flexibility with hours: the ability to work varied hours, days, night, and weekends as business dictates
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally to all audiences


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Management of DC associates will be required

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Good visual acuity
  • Close vision for computer work
  • Repetitive wrist movements on keyboard
  • Ability to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs multiple times per day
  • Ability to repetitively lift, bend, carry, and push
  • Ability to lift, push, and/or pull a minimum of 30 pounds.  Reasonable assistance may be requested when lifting, pushing, and/or pulling are undertaken which exceeds these minimum requirements
