Reports To:  Vice President of Transportation and DC

Job Location:  Mattoon, IL

FLSA Status:  Salaried Exempt

Exempt Classification:  Executive

                                                                                           

JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Transportation and Logistics directs the operations in all aspects of the transportation and logistics departments, including trucking, dispatching, fleet maintenance, scheduling, safety, and P&L.  Oversee all inbound and outbound freight, including imports.

JOB DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Strategically manage the transportation and logistics departments to meet the current and future needs of the company
  • Seek out, introduce, and apply industry-best practices with a focus on efficiency, sustainability, and scalability
  • Responsible for overseeing the dispatching of daily loads for all stores and distribution centers
  • Oversee the complete maintenance of all fleet trucks, trailers and repair shops in all locations
  • Ensure the scheduling of all routes
  • Manage scheduling of all inbound and outbound freight into the DC and stores through efficient use of TMW and internal software
  • Utilize KPI’s to drive efficiencies
  • Manage, recruit, hire, train, motivate, coach and promote a driver fleet workforce
  • Manage the safety / CSA score of the fleet
  • Coordinate with the purchasing department and current vendors to grow business opportunities
  • Ensure department meets and exceeds all DOT and State requirements at all times
  • Responsible for the P&L of transportation and logistics
  • Track the financials to accurately improve the overall efficiency of the company in reducing costs
  • May be required to cross train and perform other duties

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain management including LTL and full truckload
  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing a fleet of 100+ trucks
  • Strong industry knowledge of best practices in supply chain management and transportation
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong decision maker with exceptional time management and organizational skills
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Strong communication and analytical skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Good visual acuity and ability to communicate.
  • Repetitive wrist movements on keyboard
  • Close vision for PC work
  • Ability to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time
