Reports To:  Vice President of Purchasing

Job Location:  Store Support Center in Mattoon, IL

FLSA Status:  Salaried Exempt

Exempt Classification:  Administrative

 

JOB SUMMARY:

They are leaders who inspire and empower others to achieve great success.  The buyer owns and drives all facets of product assortment, financial planning and vendor partnerships of the category.

 

JOB DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Relationships

  • Develops strong vendor partnerships
  • Negotiates for best cost and terms
  • Manages shipping issues
  • Partners with Logistics and DC for most efficient flow of product to stores

Product

  • Maximizes sales and margin opportunities
  • Identifies new opportunities to deliver product the customer wants and needs
  • Conducts category reviews on an annual or semiannual basis
  • Develops seasonal merchandise assortments along with pricing and merchandising plans
  • Maintains current knowledge of sales and product performance
  • Works cross functionally with internal Product Development team (RFD)

Planning/Analysis

  • Effectively leads and manages planning and re-buying team
  • Uses Eagle system to optimize "in stock" on basic items
  • Identifies poor performing items and categories and reduces inventory and liabilities
  • Partners with an Inventory Planner to determine financial goals including preseason flow plans and projections
  • Manages class inventory, open-to-buy dollars, and turn-over-to plan

Competition

  • Keeps informed of competitors’ product offering, pricing and advertising

Advertising and Promotion

  • Develops and submits advertising and promotional plans that deliver increases in sales and store traffic
  • Insures accuracy of print advertising and product in stock

Store Merchandising

  • Maintains and updates plan o grams for stores on a seasonal basis
  • Insures plan o grams are appropriate to volume and space of stores and grouped for volume levels

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years of multi-unit purchasing experience
  • Strong knowledge of purchasing systems
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft Excel spreadsheets
  • Strong communication and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of the categories is beneficial but not required.

  • Repetitive wrist movements on keyboard
  • Repetitive hand movements on telexon
  • Close vision for PC work
  • Ability to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time
