Part-time Payroll Specialist

Job Description

The Role

When it comes to getting people paid, you’re a master.

You are naturally organized and have an innate knack for numbers and, funny enough, for tax codes as well. You can collaborate easily with your co-workers on the Accounting team and easily gel with the fast-paced, non-traditional environment of a creative agency.

Yeah, you analyze, prepare and input information to produce accurate payroll, but that’s not all you do. The 20-25 hours you’re needed here at Roundhouse fit perfectly with your schedule, allowing you to manage your life’s various priorities.  

You’ll report to the Director of Human Resources.  


Our Part-Time Payroll Specialists:

Processes semi-monthly payroll accurately and timely and in compliance will all state and federal wage and hour laws.

Audit payroll registers and ensure taxable fringe benefits are accounted for including relocation, car allowance, etc.

Resolve payroll discrepancies and answer payroll-related questions.

Input all new hires, terminations, pay changes, updates, and corrections to employee and payroll records including salary actions, status changes, direct deposits, tax withholdings, payroll deductions, open enrollment changes, garnishments, and other related entries.

Track and calculate garnishments, tax liens, bankruptcies and child support deductions.

Oversee preparation, calculation and remission of federal, state and other local jurisdiction payroll taxes.

Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc) for management and/ or Human Resources.

Reconcile and arrange payment for monthly billing statements for all benefit plans.

Review and prepare journal entries for each payroll process and then post to general ledger.

Coordinate calendar year-end processing of payroll to include W-2, W-3, Oregon WR and other tax forms as needed.

Update and distribute monthly headcount report and update hourly costs in Workamajig.

Maintain current knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.

Stay current on payroll systems to achieve alignment with HR benefits and to ensure effective accounting support.

Serve as a resource to managers, employees, and external contacts on established payroll policies and procedures.

Maintain the integrity of the payroll side of Roundhouse HRIS system.

Work closely with HR in year-end discrimination testing for 401(k) and annual 5500 filings.

Skills and Experience

Please Walk In With:

An Associates Degree in accounting, business, or other relevant discipline.  

At least 4 years experience processing payroll for 50+ employees. Experience with Namely a plus

Experience in the Professional Services arena or Agency experience a plus

Proficiency in all Microsoft Office tools including advanced Excel skills.

A demonstrated track record of gaining trust and respect by consistently demonstrating sound strategic and analytical thinking skills.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels across the company.

Strong attention to detail.
