The Position

Performs circulation services, reserves, and stacks maintenance activities. Enhances access to the College Archives through digitization of materials, assisting with exhibit creation, and fulfilling research requests for College Archives resources. Works evening and weekend shifts on a regularly scheduled basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Circulates physical resources
  • Collects fines & fees
  • Resolves and/or refers users’ concerns and users’ library account issues
  • Creates and maintains circulation records for equipment and realia
  • Processes booking requests for physical audiovisual resources
  • Shifts and/or shelves collection resources
  • Coordinates Roanoke-Hollins courier service deliveries
  • Processes print & electronic course reserves
  • Places resources on and removes materials from reserves
  • Provides information to faculty and staff regarding course reserves
  • Obtains copyright permissions and maintains compliance records; notifies faculty and staff of deadlines and results of requests for copyright permissions before/during semesters.
  • In the absence and/or at direction of the Access & Lending Services Librarian
  • Assists with building opening/closing, maintaining, monitoring, and observing facility operations and use, and reporting facility and user issues as needed to appropriate unit
  • Coordinates student assistants’ work and schedules
  • Communicates with Campus Safety about matters of security (e.g. securing front doors, exceptions in building hours of operation, user issues)
  • Digitizes, enters, and/or corrects metadata in the local repository for archives and special collections resources
  • Reformats archives finding aids for public access
  • Organizes, inventories, and rehouses archives collections
  • Assists in creating exhibits and fulfilling requests for archives and special collections resources
  • Provides reference assistance to users, refers complex, subject-specific research questions to subject librarian liaisons
  • Seeks opportunities for professional development, improving job skills, and streamlining office functions
  • Serves on committees and working groups within the library
  • Performs other duties as required.

Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree; BA in History preferred
  • Academic library experience preferred
  • Direct customer service experience
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat suite preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
