The Position
The Sutton Commons serves as Roanoke College’s all-you-care-to-eat dining center. It is a high-volume, 500+ seat dining space that features indoor and outdoor dining overlooking the upper-quad. “The Commons” is a located in the Colket Campus Center and is a gathering place and the primary dining space for our students, faculty, and staff. Our vision is to provide excellent hospitality experiences to all our guests, while building a team that is responsive to the growing campus community. The Dining Room Attendant’s role is critical in helping with this vision. They are responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, order and sanitation of the dining areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serves as a representative of Roanoke College, displaying courtesy, tact and respect in all interaction with our students, members of the RC community and with the public.
- Serve customers with enthusiasm in a positive and friendly manner
- Maintain role-specific equipment, cleaning as required for peak operating performance
- Daily and weekly cleaning tasks as required in the dining room and seating areas.
- Apply and enforce proper methods of safety and sanitation as instructed by the VDH and Dining Service management.
- Responsible for stocking and rotation of utensils, napkins, condiments, breads, cereals, dessert items, etc..
- Responsible for cleanliness of the dining room including tables, chairs, floors, exposed areas and countertops.
- Return unused items to proper storage facility.
- Assists in serving food when necessary.
- Assists in displaying desserts for service.
- Follow policy and procedures as established by Dining Service Management.
- Perform other duties as required.
Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:
- Previous experience in high-volume foodservice is preferred but not required.
- Ability to meticulously maintain a clean and safe food service environment
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Positive communication with guests and co-workers is essential
- Required to obtain ServSafe certification within 6 months of hire.
- Weekend availability is required.
