Cavern Assistant Manager (PM)

Job Description

The Cavern is a quick-service dining operation located in the Colket Community Center, and serves students and guests during evening and late-night hours. The Assistant Manager is a working supervisor position and performs operational supervisory functions under the direction of the Cavern PM Manager. This individual must have a disposition for providing excellent customer service, ability to teach and train others with differing skill and knowledge, and set the team’s pace for delivering excellent hospitality experiences. This position works evenings and Saturdays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a representative of Roanoke College- displaying courtesy, tact and respect in all interaction with our students, members of the RC community, and the public.
  • Opens or closes the store operations in the absence of the manager.
  • Assists the staff in daily operations, helps with the ensuring consistent production of recipes, proper and handling of food and other inventory.
  • Serve customers with enthusiasm in a positive and friendly manner.
  • Teach, train, and mentor staff, including benefitted, non-benefitted, and student staff.
  • Process financial deposits, accurately handle payment transactions using a variety of tenders, including: Cash, Credit, student meal plans, etc...
  • Develop strong knowledge of menu items and be able to provide customers with product details.
  • Complete training programming as directed to ensure strong product knowledge.
  • Maintain all equipment, cleaning as required for peak operating performance.
  • Ensure daily and weekly cleaning tasks are completed as required in the café, seating areas and storeroom.
  • Support operation’s inventory of menu items to assist in ordering products.
  • Support the operation of mobile ordering software and hardware (Transact Mobile).
  • Apply and enforce proper methods of safety and sanitation as instructed by the VDH and Dining Service Management.
  • Ensure cleanliness and proper storage and maintenance of all equipment, dishware, and utensils, including performing manual and machine-aided cleaning.
  • Participate in brief team meetings and help fulfil our mission, vision, and practice our shared values

Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Nights and weekend availability required.
  • Ability to meticulously maintain a clean and safe food service environment.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to problem solve and work independently.
  • Must be organized and self-motivated.
  • Positive communication with guests and co-workers is essential.
  • Required to obtain ServSafe certification within 6 months of hire.
  • 1+ years prior supervisory experience in hospitality and/or food service is required.
  • Quick Service Restaurant experience preferred.
