This position will be at our RJG corporate and manufacturing facility in beautiful Traverse City, MI.  Traverse City is an all-season vacation destination in Northern Michigan nestled on the south end of Grand Traverse Bay near the eastern shore of Lake Michigan.  RJG and Traverse City combine for a dream destination for those that seek quality of life and a corporate culture that puts people first.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for the development and implementation of RJG’s IT strategy for storage, transmittal and analysis of electronic information.  Assesses and analyzes the needs of the business and recommends, plans and executes priorities for systems design and implementation of an integrated digital platform. Develops and executes an enterprise-wide disaster recovery and business continuity plan with respect to IT installations and applications. Takes accountability for implementing projects to ensure that they are delivered on time, on budget and to the agreed to requirements. Responsible for managing RJG’s IT staff, including leading department planning and employee development, monitoring and appraising job results, coaching, coordinating, and employee performance. This position will also communicate and work with RJG’s management team

  • Builds and maintains a high-performance team by recruiting, orienting, training, coaching, and inspiring each individual on the team; setting job expectations and desired outcomes; planning and reviewing compensation; guiding professional growth plans; encouraging the next generation of leadership at RJG.

  • Improves existing internal processes and creates new processes as needed to maximize the efficiency of the team and the efficiency of cross-functional collaboration with other areas of the company

  • Communicates outward to the company regarding status of the team and their projects.  Communicates inward to the team regarding objectives outside of engineering and how they fit with engineering.  Must be able to simplify technical concepts for explanation to non-engineers, and to explain business concepts to the engineering team in a way that inspires and guides them.

  • Manages the overall engineering competence of RJG by guiding and growing the team and by researching new technologies and trends in the industry.

  • Has knowledge of system architecture and design to help ensure our products meet current customer needs and can be maintained and scaled as the market changes.

  • Manages department forecasting and budgets.

Current Challenges:

Examples of Current State Challenges:

  • Accounting Software
    • Does not handle multiple currencies
    • International financials are created monthly by local accountants in local currency and sent to TC where the data is entered into spreadsheets, converted to USD and consolidated financials are completed
  • Our CRM system
    • Is highly customized
    • It is difficult to maintain
    • Difficult to extract usable data
    • It is server based which creates challenges for outside sales
    • Product is supposed to go in the account and location where the product was shipped
      • This is handled via import scripts which work inconsistently
      • This is doubly challenging when working through international entities
  • Seminars
    • SLX is customized to handle seminars, but is clunky to use
    • Seminars are listed on our website, but the website is not integrated with SLX
  • Sensor Calibration
    • Calibration systems are fragmented and brittle
    • Calibration data is not integrated with sales orders
    • Sensor serial numbers are manually entered at several points in the process
      • Hand written on paperwork
      • Entered into Mas
      • Entered in SLX
  • Inventory
    • Supplier pull system works relatively well
    • Pull system works based on available inventory, large orders in process or scheduled with long ship dates can skew the pull system
    • Lead times are not readily visible to sales
  • Website
    • Developed in Ruby on Rails
    • Developers are difficult to find and expensive
    • We have limited in-house ability to deploy modifications
  • Production
    • Customers order a variety of different eDART® configurations, and optional tools
      • V9 vs V10
      • Conx, Flx or Apex

      • Shuttle
    • We do not have a robust system to ensure that we ship the proper configuration with each order or even with each repair 
  • Our network servers
    • Data is difficult to find
    • We have multiple versions of documents and it can be difficult to identify which documents are approved
    • Data may not be adequately secured
    • We do not have a process to isolate and secure our customer’s IP
