Specimen Processor Laboratory

Location: Woburn, MA

Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday 9:00am - 5:30 pm 

Great opportunity for a strong candidate to work within a fast paced, rapidly growing laboratory. Specimen Processors receive and sort specimens and then input, record, verify and edit various patient and laboratory information regarding specimens within our Lab Information System (LIS.)

Job Responsibilities:

• Utilizes a computer terminal to input, verify, and accurately match information provided on the client requisition with specimens submitted and correctly enters that data into Lab Information System (LIS). 
• Responsible for all responsibilities of the Specimen Processing Assistance which includes, but is not limited to the ability to successfully perform designated ancillary functions within specimen processing department including; Unpacking, Scanning, Labeling, and Filing.
• Separates and sorts specimens by category.
• Works with Client Services to resolve patient and client issues.
• Identifies and properly handles discrepancies (missing or incorrect information) relative to the information and specimens provided by the client and previous stages of specimen processing.
• Understands the complex relationship between test(s) ordered and specimen(s) received.
• Deciphers the complexity of the information required for a particular specialty and is compliant with standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to test ordering.
• Able to learn how to accurately process additional, more complex specialties.
• Assists as needed to perform other related duties and special projects as required.

Requirements:

• Ability to enter alpha and numeric information into the laboratory information system with required speed and accuracy as determined by the Accessioning supervisor.
• Strong communication skills.
• Demonstrated skills and high level of attention to detail in technical data interpretation and ability to troubleshoot.
• Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
• Visual acuity, auditory and skill dexterity to distinguish fine detail.
• Must possess ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
• Must possess ability to perform repetitive motion.
• Must be a team player and display a positive attitude.
