Strategic Design Consultant

Job Description

Reboot is seeking an experienced strategic designer to be based in the MENA region to support a newly-launched government ministry. The strategic designer will be a key, on-location member of Reboot’s team currently supporting the ministry to design policies, programs, and partnerships to tackle some of the country’s most complex, systemic challenges.

This is a full-time consultant position based in the client’s location from August 2019 through March 2020.

Responsibilities

  • Help train teams of public sector employees in design research, synthesis, and prototyping methods

  • Provide general design and project management guidance to teams over the course of a design, testing, implementation planning, and launch cycle

  • Work with Reboot HQ staff to coordinate and deliver a two-weeklong design masterclass / co-design workshops

  • Advise ministry staff on how to better leverage design and public sector innovation methodologies to advance their mandate

Qualifications

Successful candidates will bring a mix of skills and experience to the role. Ideal candidates have: 

  • An advanced degree in social impact design and/or relevant professional experience; recent graduates (1-2 years post-graduate) are also encouraged to apply

  • Interest/skills in group facilitation

  • Comfortable managing a design process through research, co-design, prototyping, and iteration

  • Experience teaching design principles and practices, and providing hands-on coaching to teams

  • Has an entrepreneurial, proactive attitude; thrives in fast-paced environments, and is comfortable working independently in dynamic contexts 

  • Strong cultural competency and sensitivity/ skills in cross-cultural communications

  • Ability to speak and write Arabic is required; however, this requirement can be waived for exceptional candidates

  • Experience designing and implementing public policies, programs/services, and public-private partnerships is a plus
