Our widely dispersed team and unique approach to project implementation require bespoke and adaptive management systems.

This leadership position is responsible for the direction of corporate development, finance and operations, as well as the development, coordination, and implementation of tools and policies that allow our team to effectively manage complex public sector initiatives. This includes extensive stakeholder management among our clients, partners, and subcontractors. This position is also responsible for legal affairs, contracting and procurement, organizational policymaking, staff planning, and investor and equity plan management. In this position, you will work in close partnership with the management team to contribute to Reboot’s strategic and sustainable growth.

You are as capable negotiating Reboot’s role in a multi-million dollar 5-year project consortium as you are able to analyze multiple business analytics streams to establish recruitment priorities. This is a full-time staff position based in our New York office. The successful candidate will partner closely with the Principal / CEO and will oversee the Business Operations team, currently comprising the Associate Director of People & Operations, Finance Manager and Business Operations Intern. The ideal candidate is interested in forming a long-term partnership with Reboot. There is a possibility for growth into a COO role as well as the possibility of holding equity ownership.  

Key Work Areas

With support from the BizOps team and colleagues from across the company, the Director of Business Operations will drive finance, operations and organizational development.

Finance

  • Serve as the organization’s chief finance officer, overseeing financial planning, analysis, modeling, and organizational budgeting.

  • Work closely with both Clients and the Finance Manager to negotiate billing rates, budgets, and financial strategies. Experience with indirect cost rates, NICRA, overhead analysis, and nonprofit financial management is preferred.

  • Serve as the organization’s chief compliance officer, ensuring financial and operational plans are implemented according to relevant best practices and regulations.

  • Oversee financial reporting, including program budgeting, through quarterly assessments and regular forecasts of organization's financial performance against financial and operational goals.

  • Develop and oversee the policies and procedures for financial control and reporting that meet current and future business requirements.

  • Provide guidance and support on program budgeting and pricing strategy (including billing rates and overhead analysis)

Organizational Operations

  • Direct organizational operations and corporate strategy, overseeing contracting, organizational transactions, financial planning, insurance, vendor relations, and facilities.

  • Actively analyze business analytics to inform organizational priorities and decision-making around staffing, business development priorities, and revenue performance.

  • Collaborate with Programs team to ensure project pipeline, staffing, and budgets are in line with organizational goals.

  • Manage legal affairs, liaising with legal advisors on organizational and client matters as necessary.

  • Oversee strategic development of core operational functions including organizational structure and equity incentive plan administration, service provider selection and negotiation, staff and compensation planning and oversight, tax and compliance oversight.

  • Oversee organizational and field security planning and management by implementing security protocols for operating in insecure environments.

  • Develop and oversee implementation of adaptive and empathetic corporate policies and contracting mechanisms that support individual team members and project work.

  • Manage and deploy adaptive operational systems that allow our team to deliver their best work, including but not limited to communication / IT, travel, expense, and security.

Organizational Development

  • Support and expand Human Resources policies and processes, including employee benefits and recruitment programs.

  • Manage and grow Reboot Nigeria operations, security, HR, and compliance by adapting organizational policies into the Nigerian context in close collaboration with the Nigeria Country Manager.

  • Lead the expansion of additional business entities including establishment of a separate independent 501(c)(3) organization.

  • Build and implement staff planning and management systems that support steady and sustainable growth.

Requirements

Our ideal candidate has:

  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience, ideally in fast-paced and growing company, social enterprise, or public-sector oriented nonprofit.

  • A graduate degree in a relevant field, including business administration, economics, or financial management.

  • Fluency in and passion for small business. Experience working a mission-driven organization is an asset.

  • Deep knowledge of business analytics, financial planning and accounting principles, rules, and regulations.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate flexibly, find creative solutions, and adapt to frequently changing circumstances.

  • Strong experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and procurement processes, liaising with a diverse group of client counterparts.

  • Strong sense of personal accountability and attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • An ability to work under tight time constraints; can multitask with ease and adapt to frequently changing priorities.

  • Appreciation of complexity. Comfort with ambiguity. A sense of humor.

Bonus points:

  • Knowledge of, or interest in, international development.

  • Fluency in another language.
