Field Installation Technician

We are seeking a Field Installation Technician based in Milford, Iowa, to install and service network and IT infrastructure across Iowa and surrounding areas.

This role will support projects across both RDIWorks and Thinix, working on network installations, IT infrastructure, and structured cabling for businesses, hospitality, government, healthcare, and education.

Position Overview:

This position involves:

• Cabling, network installation, diagnostics and debugging, and infrastructure setup
• Documentation creation, updates, photos, and labeling
• Installation of IT and networking hardware, including WiFi access points, switches, servers, and firewalls
• Security camera and low-voltage system deployment
• Retrofitting and new construction installations

Key Responsibilities

Structured Cabling & Infrastructure:

• Install, terminate, and test Cat6, fiber optic, coax, and other low-voltage cabling
• Perform cable routing through walls, ceilings, and outdoor/indoor transitions
• Set up and wire network racks, including power, data, and fiber optics
• Run and manage conduit, raceways, and cable management solutions
• Diagnose and debug cable faults, cable integrity issues, and network performance with tools like Fluke or other cable test equipment to ensure compliance with industry standards.

Installation of Network & IT Hardware:

• Mount, configure, and install WiFi access points (WAPs), network switches, firewalls, and servers
• Deploy and wire PoE devices (security cameras, VoIP phones, and other networked equipment)
• Be familiar with different PoE standards and methods
• Assist with POTS-to-VoIP conversions and related infrastructure updates

Construction & Retrofitting Support:

• Mount racks, reposition equipment, and install/retrofit infrastructure in both new and existing buildings
• Understand structural and electrical considerations when installing IT hardware

Field Support & Troubleshooting:

• Travel to customer locations for installations and service calls
• Work at heights using ladders or lifts as needed
• Understand and provide basic networking support (IP subnetting, VLANs, DHCP, WiFi controllers, VoIP Hardware)

Qualifications & Skills

Required:

• Strong structured cabling experience (Cat6/Cat6A, shielded and plenum cabling, fiber termination / fiber trays / fiber patch panels and cables, and low-voltage wiring)
• Installation experience with WiFi access points, network hardware, security cameras, and VoIP systems
• Ability to wire and install network racks and handle power/data/fiber configurations
• Comfortable working at heights and using tools for infrastructure retrofitting
• Basic networking knowledge (CompTIA A+ level; Network+ is a plus)
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to climb ladders and lift 50+ lbs.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.

Bonus Skills:

• Experience with WiFi networks, controllers, and different topologies
• Familiarity with POTS-to-VoIP conversions and related wiring/configuration
• Construction experience for mounting racks, planning installations, identifying alternative solutions, and infrastructure retrofits
