Benefits Analyst - Health & Welfare

Health & Welfare | Hybrid in Seattle, WA | Full Time | From $77,400 to $116,100 per year

We partner with our clients to design, implement, evaluate and communicate innovative and cost-effective benefit programs customized to their unique needs.

This position will ideally be in Seattle, WA but could be in San Mateo, CA, San Diego, CA, or Honolulu, Hawaii.

Responsibilities:

As a key member of the Health & Welfare Practice, the Benefits Analyst will support the company's objectives by providing technical and administrative support to our team of Health and Welfare consultants and analysts located in multiple offices.

Analytical work:

  • Review health plan statistical, financial reports and other specialized reports as needed for reasonableness.
  • Prepare periodic client reports on plan operations/performance including annual budget projections of income, expenses and plan reserves.
  • Calculate projected plan costs for self-insured coverages (i.e. medical, dental, prescription drug, and vision benefits).
  • Calculate COBRA rates, other self-payment rates and required Employer Contribution rates.
  • Determine the projected costs savings/cost of benefit or eligibility modifications.

Other Technical and Writing:

  • Coordinate receipt and review of insurance and service provider renewals.
  • Prepare and review Request for Proposals (insurance carriers or service providers).
  • Draft and or review of plan comparisons, participant notices, Summary Plan Descriptions, Plan Documents and amendments, as requested.
  • Assist in compliance and regulatory reporting requirements.

Interpersonal responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other analysts to develop/improve data and project management capabilities.
  • Provide administrative assistance to clients and internal staff.
  • Communicate both in writing and verbally with external clients and effectively communicate across departments and teams within the organization; Health & Welfare, Actuarial, OPEB & Pension, finance, sales, marketing, etc.

Necessary Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong research and data analysis skills.
  • Good knowledge of statistics and business operations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical yet creative and able to resolve issues quickly.
  • Detail-oriented, excellent organizational skills, ability to work independently and effectively multitask to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, etc.); must have expert abilities in MS Excel.
  • Understanding of plan modeling software programs (Claros Analytics a Plus).

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in, Math, Actuarial Science, Economics, Business or similar degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of three years of experience working in a similar role/industry.
  • Experience working in the healthcare industry either with an insurance company or employee benefits consulting firm.
