Parent Educator

Position Identification

  • Salary: Commensurate with Experience and Capabilities
  • Employment Status: Full-time Exempt

General Description

The Parent Educator provides strength based, child focused, family-centered services to families using various evidenced based curriculums to educate and support the developmental needs of their children. The focus is on parent-child interactions, parent education of child development and positive responsive care-giving. 


  • Leads and monitors implementation of the curriculum and services provided through the parenting education program 
  • Facilitates parent education groups and individual parent education plans both on site at QOPC housing facilities or in a family's home with clients
  • Facilitates staff training and helps promote an agency culture that is child focused and family-centered
  • Manages multiple family caseloads
  • Works collaboratively with the mother's treatment team to carry out family-centered treatment goals
  • Maintains accurate and up to date records in accordance to regulations and grant reporting
  • Provides families with community resources and appropriate referrals as needed
  • Bills a minimum of 25 hours per week
  • Other duties as assigned by the department director

Qualifications, Skills, & Knowledge


  • Sincere dedication to the mission of Queen of Peace Center
  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education Elementary Education, Child Development, Family and Consumer Sciences or related field
  • Two years of experience working in an Early Childhood setting or working directly with high risk families
  • Possess a valid driver's license and be able to provide own transportation
  • Availability to work weeknights and weekends if needed

Skills, Knowledge, & Competencies

  • Experience and confidence identifying and implementing evidence based practices
  • Experience working in crisis setting with individuals and families
  • Highly skilled in developing interpersonal relationships in a highly professional manner
  • Strong knowledge of principles of child development and developmentally appropriate practices
  • Knowledge of substance use and trauma centered care
  • Knowledge of Disease Concept of Addiction/Stages of Change
  • Highly skilled in motivational interviewing
  • Creative and proactive problem solver
  • Superb oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Outlook
