Your mission?
As a Data Scientist - Pre Sales Engineer at Pricefx, you will play a pivotal role in showcasing the value of our science product portfolio to prospects. This customer-facing position involves close collaboration with the sales pursuit team to define and implement strategies for collecting and analyzing and modeling customer datasets. Your goal will be to create impactful deliverables—such as proofs of concept, reports, simulations, and summaries—that clearly demonstrate, quantify, and justify the business value of applying Pricefx software to both standardized and custom pricing optimization use cases.

You will be in charge of…
- Understand customer business problems, company goals, and define strategies for technical customer engagements and validate with internal and external stakeholders. Transparently evaluate risks and trade-offs.
- Own all data-related aspects of the sales cycle and work directly with the customer to understand data availability, formats, quality, business sense, and related processes. Collaborate with Solutions Architects to understand system landscapes and data sources.
- Efficiently extract, transfer, transform, validate, and ingest data into relevant internal systems or solutions to achieve Proof-of-Concept-grade objectives.
- Develop a solid understanding of Pricefx’ science methodologies and related configurations. Deploy, configure, and run relevant machine learning (ML) algorithms on customer-specific datasets and business objectives. Summarize results and assess limitations.
- Work closely with solutions stakeholders and customer SMEs to incorporate realistic industry and customer-specific knowledge in all deliverables (e.g., waterfall elements, go-to-market practices, channels, etc.).
- Constantly assess the business outcomes of the Proof-of-Concept and extrapolate the results to future production scenarios. Partner with the value team to summarize the overall value, identify compelling examples, and articulate limitations and next steps.
- Summarize the outcomes of the Proof-of-Concept to buyers by preparing and delivering outstanding deliverables to various audiences: presentations, executive summaries, reports, product demonstrations, etc.
- Participate in discovery sessions and collaborate with Solution Strategists to assess the limitations of Pricefx’ productized algorithms when applied to unique business use cases or industries.
- Propose new Proof-of-Concept-grade customer-specific data science methodologies or configurations, pulling from applicable AI domains (e.g., statistics, parametric models, tree-based models, explainable AI, optimization, heuristics, etc.). Develop prototypes locally or directly on the Pricefx platform. Assess results quality.
- Conduct discovery meetings to identify candidate features and implement and evaluate using customer data.
- Configure model visualizations and contextual analytics prototypes in the Pricefx application.
- Document steps and deliverables for handover to customer delivery teams.
Process Ownership and Asset Building
- Own the data-driven Proof-of-Concept process and ensure adoption by revenue teams and fit in with other commercial processes and systems.
- Measure and report process KPIs and maintain a roadmap of process and system enhancements.
- Contribute to enhancements of standard presales assets (e.g., templates, guides, clickstreams, recordings, etc.) targeting Pricefx,’e.g., templates, guides, clickstreams, recordings, etc.) targeting Pricefx’s various customer segments.
- Identify and directly or indirectly contribute to demonstration environment improvements for all science-based workflows.
- Regularly provide product and market feedback to other teams (e.g., product, marketing, industry, etc.).
What should you have to succeed?
- Exceptional presentation and communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey data-driven insights and recommendations to diverse audiences, including C-level executives.
- 3+ years of experience delivering high-quality data-driven deliverables in fast-paced and ambiguous environments.
- Experience extrapolating findings in data and designing business assumptions to convey executive-level business outcomes (e.g., business cases, simulations, forecasts, etc.).
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with technical subject matter experts and business stakeholders to independently deliver iterative, data-driven results.
- Experience delivering demonstrations for software deliverables (e.g. dashboards, predictions, workflows) and handling objections.
- Mastery of data transformation techniques and tools (SQL, R, Tidyverse, Pandas, etc.) applied to both exploratory data analysis and analytics pipeline creation.
- 3+ years of experience using a data reporting application (PowerBI, Tableau, Excel, Ggplot, Plotly, etc.) and environment (Rstudio, Jupyter, etc.) to build and deliver compelling data insights.
- Familiarity with multiple data extraction and ingestion paradigms and tools (Linux, SFTP, database connectors, APIs, etc.).
- 3+ years of experience across common data-related languages (R, Python, Java, SQL, etc.)
- 1+ years of experience delivering Machine Learning applications using multiple domains of AI (clustering, regression, NLP, explainable AI, statistics, constrained optimization, etc.).
- Experience delivering end-to-end data-centric applications in production using Data and Machine Learning Engineering principles (MLOps, etc.).
- Experience in pricing or related functions such as finance, revenue operations, or eCommerce.
- Solid business acumen with a preference for experience across multiple industries.
- 3+ years of experience extracting and manipulating data from the common core and commercial IT systems (e.g., SAP ERP/Sales/Commerce/etc., Salesforce CRM/CPQ/etc., Quoting, Rebates, Point of Sale, CLM, etc.).
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Operations Research, Statistics, etcBachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Operations Research, Statistics, etc.). is required; a Masters's degree is preferred.
