Platform Engineer

Plastiq (pronounced “Plastic”) is a fast-growing financial technology company changing the payments landscape by empowering consumers to use their cards everywhere cards are not accepted.  The company is headquartered in San Francisco and is backed by top advisors and investors.

The Engineering team is responsible for building the core technology platform that is Plastiq’s business, as well as providing critical internal tools and technology infrastructure that support the other groups at the company including Sales, Marketing, Customer Service, Business Support and Risk Operations. Our customers are credit and debit cardholders, who may use our service as both consumers and small business owners/administrators.

We are seeking a talented Platform Engineer to contribute to our powerful payments platform, which serves as the engine for all of the company’s money movement, currently handling hundreds of millions of dollars flowing through multiple countries and payment channels.  The platform also boasts integrations to major card processing and treasury services providers, and works closely with our fraud and financial operations practices.

You’re a hands-on developer.  You can develop new integrations and features to support the growth of Plastiq’s business.

You act as an Architect.  You can discuss needs and issues impacting our business with executive stakeholders and implement new solutions to address them.

You can provide operational support.  Support our Operations team who rely on your deep expertise in the payments platform to troubleshoot and diagnose challenging issues impacting our customers.  You are able to understand complex business requirements and synthesize effective technical solutions.



  • You have a strong background in Java, SQL, and Linux.

  • You have strong experience with build and deployment infrastructure, including Maven, Jenkins, and Artifactory.

  • Advanced knowledge of JAVA, JVM Runtime, JVM performance tuning.

  • Strong knowledge of REST services, data binding, and JSON.

  • Strong knowledge of relational databases.

  • Experience in the financial services industry is a plus.

  • BA/BS in Computer Science is highly preferred.
