Role at a Glance

The Sales Development Representative (SDR) will be responsible for SMB (small and medium business) client acquisition and growth across multiple verticals in both the U.S. and Canada. A successful Sales Development Representative will be someone who is bound to personal KPIs, other-centered in their approach, and obsessed with problem-solving for small and medium-sized businesses. You’ve never met a stranger, which is essential as you will execute hundreds of cold calls and cold emails each week. As a part of a fast-growing financial technology company, your role requires frequent iteration and adaptation of your approach, and an unrelenting positive spirit as you do so. This position is the tip of the spear with regard to client Growth, focusing primarily on inbound Leads.

About You

  • 2+ years of work experience in sales or business development, with a proven track record of driving key elements of the sales process

  • Formal sales training or equivalent experience in consultative sales

  • You place the needs and wishes of the client above your own desires and quotas

  • You are a self-starter, resourceful, and eager to initiate and own new projects

  • You take a careful approach to the creation and nurturing of personal relationships, versus relying on hastily-made contacts

  • When you're given a task, you take ownership and find a smart, effective way to complete it

  • Strong Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets skills required, in addition to Salesforce or comparable CRM software

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to speak to both internal and external constituencies such as: product, engineering, design, operations, and customer service

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university

  • Background in SMB payments or financial technology a plus

  • Based in the San Francisco Bay Area

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the sales growth team, reporting to the Head of Sales

  • Identify SMB opportunities within target verticals, leading outreach to cold prospects in order to secure new clients and payment volume

  • Become a product expert, able to walk business owners through all of Plastiq’s offerings and show them how it will simplify their business payments

  • Track and report on success metrics, including lead conversation and client learnings

  • Provide suggestions and insight for the creation and development of marketing materials, including physical and digital collateral, and web presentations/product demonstrations

  • Document all learnings and interactions in Salesforce, building a robust profile around each lead you convert into a customer

  • Base salary + uncapped commission with high earning potential

  • No travel required; all efforts executed from Plastiq’s San Francisco office
