We're looking to add a full-time developer to help build and develop Pitchfork and its affiliates. You'll work out of our Chicago office with our small dev staff, assisting with every aspect of Pitchfork and directly impacting how our three million loyal readers use the site.

About Us:
  • Pitchfork is the leading voice in modern music journalism.
  • Our readers, among the most loyal on the Web, are influencers who shape their peersʼ tastes.
  • Our editorial team and freelance writers are among the most widely read and respected in music publishing, shaping the discussion through daily reviews, breaking news, and award-winning video content and features.
About You:
  • You should love music. Love it.
  • You should be familiar with Pitchfork, what we do, who and what we cover.
  • The idea of your work reaching Pitchfork's three million readers is exciting.
  • You've been coding for a while now, and are confident in your skills.
  • You can wear multiple hats. You learn from everything. You ask questions. You get things done.
  • Developing, testing, and maintaining Pitchfork and all of its sites (festival, etc)
  • Assisting editorial with CMS and publication tasks
  • Working on everything from the most exciting to the most mundane projects. Mundane is kept to a minimum, but mundane happens.
  • Python, Django, and MySQL form our basic stack. It's ok if you're not fluent with Django, but you should be able to pick it up quickly. We're open to using other tools when they're a good fit.
  • HTML, CSS, and JS are second nature to you, and you should have an eye to where they're going. We have the luxury of focusing development on modern browsers.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to execute on abstract concepts.
Bonus Points:
  • Familiarity or fluency with aspects of the Python and Django ecosystems: virtualenv, fabric, celery, etc.
  • Experience with or warm, fuzzy feelings about git, Rails, Postgres, Amazon Web Services, MongoDB, Riak, Puppet, node.js
  • A good sense for design and layout
  • Experience with consuming and building APIs
  • Coding Flash and ActionScript for use with streaming media
Pay, Benefits, and Perks:
  • Competitive salary and benefits commensurate to experience
  • Company matched retirement plan
  • Aforementioned amazing work environment -- you're coming into a fast-growing, fast-paced, non-corporate company where each role is defined by hard work, autonomy, and opportunity.
  • Music-related fun (e.g. we run a large music festival)
  • Actively encouraged and allowed the freedom to create, work on and contribute to open source projects.
  • Use the latest tech to develop modern applications -- we use a lot of tools, and have the luxury of using the latest and greatest when it makes sense.

Send in your resume/cv with references, your availability, and examples of your work. Providing code samples via Github, Bitbucket, etc. is encouraged. A Twitter and/or Facebook profile would be great, too. We're going to look, regardless.
