Field Coordinator

Field and Policy | WASHINGTON, DC | Full Time

Job Description


Summary: The Field Coordinator is responsible for providing resources and supporting a portfolio of projects that support the PFLAG chapter network. They will have the opportunity to develop their expertise, expand partnerships and work with funders to support their individual portfolio.  In addition, they are responsible for advancing the PFLAG voice, visibility and representation for the PFLAG chapter network through member organizing and advocacy work.

Duties & Responsibilities:

PFLAG Chapter Engagement

  • Provides assistance, resources and guidance to PFLAG chapters, chapter leaders and members

  • Provides technical assistance and creates learning opportunities for PFLAG chapters

  • Monitors and maintains information about activities of chapters

  • Coordinates and/or assists in the creation of projects to support chapters focused on volunteer management, community education, leadership transition, grassroots organizing, etc.

  • Supports the education and publication needs of the chapter network


Volunteer Management

  • Works in collaboration with the Chapter Engagement team and Regional Director’s Council to support chapter engagement and advance a portfolio of projects that benefit chapters

  • Supports the PFLAG network of volunteers, in particular, volunteer Regional Directors, state coordinators, and chapter leaders

  • Coordinates and/or assists chapter volunteers in order to support their efforts to advance the PFLAG mission


Advocacy & Organizing

  • Works with other members of PFLAG team and partners to leverage their portfolio of projects so the unique PFLAG voice will advance PFLAG’s advocacy work

  • Conducts research and develops materials in collaboration with staff, volunteers, members and coalition partners

  • Serves as a liaison between PFLAG National and coalition partners as needed


Event & Meeting Planning

  • Participates in development and planning of PFLAG meetings including state, regional, and national conferences

  • Represents PFLAG at external conferences and events


  • Performs all other relevant responsibilities as requested

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills

  • Knowledge of and experience with grassroots membership organizations or volunteer members are highly desirable

  • Commitment to creative teamwork

  • Multilingual skills helpful

  • Well-organized with a collegial working style

  • Comfort working within and across organization teams

  • Familiarity with general office equipment including network and desktop copiers, scanner, postage meter, projectors, telephone systems, video calls/meetings, among others

  • Experience with PC computers and software including Google apps, Salesforce and Microsoft Office products

  • Knowledge of donor or membership database is recommended for this position. Salesforce experience is strongly preferred

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience in the field

  • Two years of experience in community based, state or national grassroots organizing and/or electoral campaign and/or legislative staff experience

  • Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends

  • Computer proficiency PC and Windows proficiency
