About Us:

ALM Hopewell Center provides comprehensive mental health services to children and adults in the northern and central parts of the City of St. Louis and North St. Louis City. A professional mental health staff serves a growing caseload of 2,800 patients, of which greater than ninety-five percent are chronically mentally ill and suffering from major psychiatric disorders. Hopewell Center operates a Psychosocial Rehabilitation Center and a Comprehensive Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center for adults and youth. Many services are provided at schools. Emergency services, including a crisis bed and mobile outreach, are available twenty-four hours per day. A multi-disciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, counselors, social workers, educators, and support staff work diligently to carry out the mission of providing comprehensive care to patients and their families.

Summary:
Hopewell Center currently has an opportunity available for a Community Support Specialist (CSS) in our Adult Services Department. This position is responsible for providing activities and interactions that enable an individual at clear risk of hospitalization, or who was discharged from inpatient treatment to maintain an adjustment to living in the community.

The CSS is also responsible for evaluation of client's status including personal strengths, areas of concern and needs. CSS worker will participate in formal assessment and the development of the person-centered plan; monitor client's progress towards goal attainment; provide assistance and act as a 24-hour resource when necessary. Train clients in living skills, social skills and other pro-social activities which enable client (s) to actively participate in the recovery process. The CSS worker also transports clients to appointments and makes house visits as applicable. The CSS worker is an active member of the Clinical Treatment Team. CSS worker is responsible for maintaining client records and assuring standards and guidelines are upheld.

Requirements:

An individual with a bachelor’s degree in a human services field which includes social work, psychology, nursing, education, criminal justice, recreational therapy, human development and family studies, counseling, child development, gerontology, sociology, human services, behavioral science and rehabilitation counseling;


  1. An individual with any four year degree and two years of qualifying Experience;
  2. Any four year combination of higher education and qualifying experience, or
  3. An individual with four years of qualifying experience.
  4. Qualifying experience must include delivery of service to individuals with mental illness, substance abuse or developmental disabilities.


Experience must include some combination of the following:

  • Providing one-on-one or group services with a Teaching and modeling for individuals how to cope and manage.
  • psychiatric, developmental or substance abuse issues while encouraging the use of natural resources;
  • Supporting efforts to find and maintain employment for individuals and/or to function appropriately in families, school and communities;
  • Assisted individuals to achieve the goals and objectives on their individualized treatment or person centered plans.

-Must have valid Class E driver’s license, dependable transportation, a clean driver's record and personal vehicle insurance.
