Job Description

West coast development manager to over development projects

The Advanced Development area of the Systems Science Lab has an opening for a software development manager. The candidate will lead a software team of developers and testers to deliver prototypes and products to a variety of customers. The position requires mentoring and direction of developers in the full software lifecycle of requirements, design, testing, and deployment of solutions. The right candidate is a mixture of leadership and technical architectural strengths.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with product owners, other product stakeholders, and team members

• Build and manage a development team

• Become a domain expert for the requirements and implementation

• Establish and maintain development schedules, organized into sprints

• Requirements review and estimation

• Participate in technical reviews

• Develop complex distributed systems

• Ensure delivery commitments are being addressed according to the approved plans

• Provide leadership on software architecture issues as needed

• Lead process improvements to increase efficiency, productivity, and smoothness of operations

 

Required Skills & Experience:

• BS in Computer Science or Software Engineering

• Minimum 8+ years of enterprise software development experience

• Minimum 5+ years of development team management

• Minimum 2+ years of experience managing Agile teams

• Experience with direct customer interfacing and relationship management

• Experience with managing outsourced development teams

• Excellent project management skills (schedule, staffing, risks management)

• Proven development experience with C++ or object oriented languages (Java, C#)

• Experience in hands-on, in-depth analysis, including technical review and analysis of source code

• Experience with automated testing and continuous integration

• Understanding of different technology stacks, development environment and development/project management tools

 

Nice to Have Experience:

• Experience developing distributed systems

• Solid knowledge of multi-threading, enterprise integration patterns, Web Service, and REST

• Familiarity with cloud platforms

• Cloud-based development, micro-services architecture, SQL/NoSQL databases
