Post-doctoral Scientist, Optoelectronic Materials and Devices

The Electronic Materials & Devices Laboratory (EMDL) at PARC is a group of physicists, material scientists, electrical engineers, and chemists with a passion for identifying future hardware needs and a history of innovation in creating new technologies to meet those needs. Our current research includes optoelectronic devices, optical sensors and systems, thin film electronics, printed and flexible electronics, optical and mechanical microsystems, and printing technologies. We enjoy the opportunity to publish externally and engage in strategic research with a variety of partners, from start-ups to the Fortune 50.

The Optoelectronic Materials and Devices Area of EMDL conducts research and development on optical sensing systems, optical system design, and semiconductor optical emitters. We currently have an opening for a post-doctoral scientist in optical sensing, with applications in diverse fields such as flow cytometry, micro-fluidic systems, point-of-care diagnostics, detection in harsh environments, and structural health monitoring. Current projects include the following:

  • Optical detection techniques and technologies (e.g. fluorescence, scattering, absorption, lifetime, spectral etc.)

  • (Fiber) optical sensors for physical, biological or chemical properties

  • Design, prototyping and testing of optical systems, including design of integrated photonic circuits

  • Simulation, data acquisition and data evaluation

  • Free-space optical systems

  • Instrumentation for structural health monitoring

Requirements:

  • Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field

  • Direct experience in one or more of the technical areas listed above

  • Hands-on lab experience

  • Experience with complex data analysis

  • Strong record of research and innovative problem solving

  • Must qualify for immediate work authorization

  • Ability to gain permanent resident status
