About the Job

The Optoelectronics group currently has an opening for a post-doctoral scientist or research assistant in the area of optical sensing systems, with applications in diverse fields such as structural health monitoring (SHM), flow cytometry, micro-fluidic systems, and detection in harsh environments. Technical areas of current projects include the following:

  • (Fiber) optical sensors for physical, biological or chemical properties
  • Design, prototyping and testing of optical systems, including design of integrated photonic circuits
  • Optical detection techniques and technologies (e.g. fluorescence, scattering, absorption, lifetime, spectral etc.)
  • Simulation, data acquisition and data evaluation
  • Free-space optical systems
  • Instrumentation for structural health monitoring


  • Applicants should have a Ph.D. or master's degree in a relevant field
  • Direct experience in one or more of the technical areas listed above
  • Hands-on lab experience
  • Experience with complex data analysis
  • Strong record of research and innovative problem solving
  • Must qualify for immediate work authorization
  • Ability to gain permanent resident status
