Internship in Social Conversational Agents
internships | Palo Alto, CA
PhD candidate in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Science, Computational Media, or related disciplines
About the Job:
Conversation is one of the most natural forms of human communication. Humans converse in order to obtain information, resolve disputes, influence, get to know someone, connect to others, obtain or give emotional support. Conversations are omnipresent in online social media and follow different conventions than face-to-face, phone, or written conversations. To participate in such conversations, an agent must be able to model information about personality traits, mood, intent, goals, and preferences of the participants, and decide how and when to respond.
We’re seeking a talented intern in the Interactive Intelligence group to create novel approaches to social conversational agents. You will collaborate with our team on new techniques for interactive narrative, conversation analysis, user modeling, and language generation; and model, implement and evaluate these techniques in the context of a live social mobile app.
- You are passionate about social media as a means to understand and aid human cognition
- You have experience with interactive narrative, natural language, dialog analysis, language generation
- You are a PhD candidate in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Science, Computational Media, or related disciplines
- You have strong development skills, preferably in Python, Java, Lisp, and/or mobile app frameworks
If this sounds like you, please apply with a resume and cover letter (required) explaining your interest in this position. Please do not submit a “generic” letter; we want to know why you want to work with us in particular and what you will bring to our team.
