We leverage our state-of-the-art technologies to facilitate the discovery of best-in-class antibodies. Within OmniAb are also core capabilities for the discovery and screening of high-value ion channel and transporter targets.

OmniAb consists of dynamic, collaborative, and innovative team members that are passionate about contributing to the technological frontier of drug discovery and to the advancement of global human health. Together, with our partners, we are enabling the discovery of next-generation therapeutics.

About Our Internship Program

Our interns provide valuable support to our teams as we work to expand access to the most diverse antibody repertoires and cutting-edge screening technologies.

Our mission is to provide a welcoming environment and impactful work to our interns as well as learning and development opportunities. This is a 10-week program which offers an internship project and a platform for our interns to share their work with the organization. Our interns will be encouraged to drive their projects and network within the organization, but they will also have a dedicated Intern Manager and Intern Advocate to offer guidance and support throughout the program.

About This Role

We’re seeking a Summer Intern, SPR Analysis, who will be responsible for generating label-free biosensor interaction analysis to study antibodies sourced from our naturally optimized human-sequence immune repertoires produced in chicken host platforms. The individual will work within our Advanced Characterization team, which uses high throughput interaction analysis, structural biology, modeling and computational design, including machine learning, to mine our repertoires and retrieve antibodies with drug-like properties. The ideal candidate has experience in protein sciences, biochemistry or molecular biophysics and is familiar with binding assays such as ELISA or more sophisticated instrument-based methods for interaction analysis such as BLI, SPR, ITC, FRET, stopped flow fluorescence, or enzyme kinetics.

This role reports to the SVP, Exploratory Research.

Please note: Our program will begin mid-June and end mid-late August. This is an onsite position based out of our Emeryville headquarters in CA. This is a full-time position, and the office hours are within 8am-5pm PT.

What You’ll Do

  • Learn best practices for designing high quality and reliable biosensor assays using SPR and BLI technologies, as applied to the characterization of therapeutic antibodies
  • Design, perform and analyze kinetic and epitope binning assays
  • Collaborate with computational and analytical teams to understand the epitope coverage of our repertoires and identify distinguishing features
  • Present your work at the annual Internship Showcase.

What You Bring

  • Currently pursuing a MSc or PhD in Molecular Biophysics, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Pharmacology or related field.
  • Proficiency in basic lab skills.
  • Experience in protein science and basic protein characterization methods.
  • Ability to work both independently and deliver responsibilities within a highly collaborative environment.

Nice To Have

  • Foundational understanding of protein biochemistry.
  • Experience using instrumentation for characterizing biophysical properties of proteins.
  • Experience using label-free biosensor technologies for biomolecular interaction analysis.

The base compensation range for this position is $30 - $45 per hour. The range provided is an estimate. Actual compensation may vary based on skills, experience, education, location, and other factors permitted by law.
