OmniAb consists of dynamic, collaborative and innovative team members that are passionate about contributing to the technological frontier of drug discovery and to the advancement of global human health. Together, with our partners, we are enabling the discovery of next-generation therapeutics.

About This Role

We’re seeking a Senior Research Associate II, Molecular Biology, who be responsible for assisting in the creation and validation of transgenic chickens expressing human antibodies. This person will help characterize the newly created lines of chickens using a variety of molecular and immunological techniques. The Animal Genetics and Molecular Biology group focuses on engineering chickens to produce human antibodies in various formats for different therapeutic applications. New genetically modified lines of chickens are validated in antibody discovery campaigns and the antibodies produced are characterized prior to the chickens being used in partner programs. This individual will collaborate with Antibody Discovery and Protein Sciences groups. The ideal candidate has experience in a range of molecular biology techniques such as PCR, cloning, Western blotting, flow cytometry, and mammalian cell culture.

This role reports to the Senior Director, Molecular Biology.

This is an onsite position based out of our Emeryville headquarters. This is a full-time position, and the working hours are 8am-5pm PT.

What You’ll Do

  • Assess B cell development in OmniChickens by flow cytometry, Western blotting, RT-PCR and ELISA.
  • Assist in antibody discovery campaigns by preparing immunogens and testing immune responses.
  • Perform PCR from single B cells to amplify V regions.
  • Clone and express recombinant antibodies in 293 cells and confirm antibody binding by ELISA.
  • Produce NGS amplicon libraries for antibody repertoire analysis.
  • Clone other constructs as needed.
  • Genotype animals by qPCR, looking for errors and inconsistencies, perform troubleshooting and communicate results within short timelines.
  • Train team members in established SOPs and best practices.
  • Keep accurate and complete notebook entries with effective data management and visualization.
  • Maintain inventories of laboratory reagents, recognize and resupply as needed, and communicate low supplies.
  • Other duties as required.

What You Bring

  • BSc in Molecular Biology or another relevant field and 7+ years of experience.
    • Alternatively, MSc in Molecular Biology or another relevant field and 5+ years of experience.
  • Technical proficiency across a broad range of molecular biology techniques (i.e. qPCR, Western blotting, ELISA, cell culture).
  • Ability to design experiments with proper controls and based on underlying scientific principles and understanding of the project.
  • Ability to evaluate experimental outcomes and plan solutions or troubleshoot.
  • Ability to present clearly in a group setting.

  • Effective communication, record-keeping and organization skills, and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Eagerness to learn new methods and apply knowledge to a steady stream of new projects with distinct goals.

Nice To Have

  • Experience with antibody characterization and/or antibody discovery.
  • Experience with transgenic animals.
  • Experience with B cell biology.
