About This Role

We’re seeking a Senior Research Associate I who will be responsible for performing cloning and sequencing to identify therapeutic candidates for partners antibody discovery programs. The Molecular Biology Team focuses on cloning and sequencing antibody sequences for antibody discovery programs. The team also builds NGS libraries in support of discovery programs. This individual will collaborate closely within the Screening, Bioassay, and Bioinformatics teams. The ideal candidate is adept in molecular biology and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and will be responsible for independently designing, and executing partner projects utilizing developed techniques, as well as independent projects to develop new approaches.

This role reports to the VP, Discovery Systems.

This is an onsite position based out of our Emeryville headquarters. This is a full-time position, and the office hours are within 8am-5pm PT.


What You’ll Do

  • Guide the development of novel antibody sequencing approaches and workflows for both bulk and single cells.
  • Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot molecular biology techniques, including primer design, RT-PCR, RNA and DNA extraction, cDNA generation, qPCR, NGS library preparation and QC, and DNA gel purification.
  • Be the “go-to” expert for NGS sample preparation, sample QC, and sample submission.
  • Execute high-throughput single cell sequencing projects for partner and internal initiatives with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Execute experiments by following established, written protocols without direct supervision.
  • Participate in the design and execution of experiments based on interpretation of previous results, demonstrates creativity and latitude in independent design, execution, and analysis.
  • Maintain a meticulous record of experiments and results in a laboratory notebook and is responsible for the write-up of SOPs, protocols, methods descriptions, etc., under the direction of a supervisor.
  • Clearly present results across multiple internal groups.
  • Perform other duties as required.


What You Bring

  • BSc in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or another relevant field and 5+ years of experience.
    • Alternatively, MSc in a relevant field with 3+ years of experience.
  • Proven expertise in molecular biology techniques, including PCR, cloning, cDNA synthesis, NGS preparation.
  • Experience with Illumina or other NGS platforms and library preparation methods.
  • Thorough knowledge of experimental design, underlying scientific principles, and the ability to analyze and assess results independently.
  • Strong communication, record-keeping, and organizational skills, and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Passion for therapeutic biology research and a willingness to acquire new skills.

  • Experience with coding in Python.

The base compensation range for this position is $95,000 - $105,500 per year. The range provided is an estimate. Actual compensation may vary based on skills, experience, education, location, and other factors permitted by law.
