Molecular Biology & Screening | Emeryville, CA | Full Time | From $152,425 to $165,679 per year

Job Description

About OmniAb

OmniAb provides our pharmaceutical industry partners access to the most diverse antibody repertoires and cutting-edge screening technologies to enable discovery of next-generation therapeutics. We leverage our state-of-the-art technologies to facilitate the discovery of best-in-class antibodies.

OmniAb consists of dynamic, collaborative and innovative team members that are passionate about contributing to the technological frontier of drug discovery and to the advancement of global human health. Together, with our partners, we are enabling the discovery of next-generation therapeutics.

About OmniAb’s xPloration® Discovery System

OmniAb’s xPloration offers superior screening and cell recovery compared to other single cell profiling technologies. Its high throughput enables the discovery of rare cells potentially missed by other systems or approaches. Its rapid laser-based recovery process paired with next-generation sequencing enables further mining of immune repertoires for potential hit expansion. xPloration supports various assay formats and is valuable for high-throughput B cell screening within the growing OmniAb partner ecosystem.

About This Role

We’re seeking a Senior Field Application Scientist who will be responsible for developing and supporting applications for xPloration to support our biotech, pharmaceutical, and academic research partners and customers. This person will be an important member of the xPloration technical support team that focuses on supporting and servicing xPloration instruments for our partners’ research applications. The position will split time between partner support (both remote and on-site) and internal applications development.

  • For partner support, this person will serve as a confident, friendly, and scientifically rigorous representative of xPloration and OmniAb-leading customer demos, trainings, and technical troubleshooting.
  • For internal applications development, this person will help expand and validate workflows, develop enablement materials, and translate field feedback into scalable improvements that broaden xPloration adoption across a larger audience.

This individual will collaborate closely with our Sales and Science teams to ensure a seamless customer experience. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background in assay development, high-throughput screening, antibody discovery, instrument hardware support, and good customer service and communication skills.

This role reports to the VP, Discovery Systems.

This is an onsite position based out of our Emeryville headquarters and will require up to 50% domestic and international travel. This is a full-time position, and the office hours are within 8am to 5pm PT.

What You’ll Do

  • Innovate and execute applications development to validate, improve, and expand xPloration workflows, use cases, and performance.
  • Plan and execute on-site and virtual demos and technical evaluations in close partnership with the xPloration Sales team.
  • Lead customer onboarding and training, including best practices, workflow setup, experimental design guidance, and interpretation of results.
  • Provide expert, scientist-to-scientist technical support and troubleshooting - staying calm, confident, and solution-oriented during high-stakes or challenging demo and partner environments.
  • Develop enablement tools and technical content including protocols, SOPs, training decks, demo scripts, FAQs, troubleshooting guides, and demo-ready datasets.
  • Maintain high-quality documentation and operational rigor (e.g., CRM notes, training records, experiment documentation, and escalation summaries).
  • Educate potential customers and partners on the benefits, differentiators, and applications of our screening technology.
  • Communicate effectively across the company and externally, representing OmniAb at customer sites, relevant scientific conferences and trade shows.
  • Other duties as required.

What You Bring

  • PhD in Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field and 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Proven success in a customer-facing scientific role (e.g., Field Applications Scientist, Applications Scientist, Technical Support Scientist) delivering trainings, demos, and technical troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with relevant life science workflows.
  • Strong experimental and analytical instincts with the ability to design tests, interpret data, isolate variables, and recommend next steps under real-world constraints.
  • Excellent communication and teaching skills with the ability to build credibility quickly and represent OmniAb/xPloration with professionalism and warmth.
  • Strong record-keeping and organizational skills, capable of prioritizing effectively and managing a diverse workload.
  • A proactive, customer-service-oriented mindset focused on partner relationships and shared success.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to ~50% of the time.

Nice To Have

  • Familiarity with antibody discovery pipelines, single B-cell screening and sequencing concepts, or high-throughput screening environments.
  • Track record creating scalable enablement assets such as training programs, onboarding checklists, troubleshooting playbooks, or application notes.
  • Comfort with data handling and visualization tools (e.g., Excel, GraphPad Prism, R/Python) and strong documentation discipline.
