About the Role:
- Plan, direct and coordinate activities of Animal Facilities. Manage and support teams of Animal Technicians at the Emeryville and Dixon sites, prepare staff work schedules and assign specific duties.
- Establish and implement facility policies, goals, objectives, and procedures in conjunction with other team members.
- Oversee the design, construction and maintenance of egg incubators and hatchers (including electrical components) and develop technical and training manuals.
- Work collaboratively with scientists and support staff to provide best in class facility, identifying root causes of issues and implementing creative targeted solutions.
- Supervise the maintenance and troubleshooting of lab equipment found in biotech laboratories, including installing and repairing equipment and systems critical to laboratory operations.
- Oversee and coordinate efficient operations and maintenance of all necessary building systems in vivarium and back-up vivarium, including HVAC, HVAC monitoring, e-power, plumbing and back-up water system.
- Also responsible for maintenance and repair of all husbandry-related housing, IT network infrastructure, network components, and IT support.
- Monitor and maintain relationships with equipment suppliers, proactively incorporate upgrades and design improvement to ensure that they efficiently provide needed goods and services within budgetary limits as well as identify areas to improve efficiency.
- Recommend locations for new facilities, oversee the remodeling or renovating of current facilities.
- Coordinate operations for emergencies after-hours.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering (Electric, Electronic, Mechanical, Industrial) or a related field.
- Five years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering, electronics engineering, or any combination thereof.
- Work experience to include:
(1). 2 years of experience managing and training teams of technicians in animal facilities.
(2). Supervising construction and maintenance of hatchery equipment.
(3). Planning and providing guidance on set-ups, implementation, and maintenance of IT network systems in animal facilities.
(4). Managing building systems in an operations setting, to include overseeing maintenance and repair of HVAC and building monitoring systems as well as of all systems in a vivarium, including hatching equipment, machines, and security equipment including cameras and alarms.
(5). Managing and coordinating hatchery activities, including incubation, hatching, grading, and vaccination.
(6). Overseeing Quality Assurance and Quality Control programs and sanitation in a hatchery.
Any and all experience may be gained concurrently.
