Graphic Designer

Packaging Design | Portland, OR | Full Time

The Graphic Designer will function as a pre-press operator by reviewing and building packaging files in preparation for print production.  Responsible for reviewing client designs against print restrictions and suggesting edits that maintain the artistic design of the original art. This role has very limited exposure to creative graphic design work, but requires the experience and understanding of a Graphic Designer to work within Creative Cloud software and bridge Client desires and manufacturing tolerances.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Review client created graphics against the appropriate print and production method

  • Recommend adjustments to files to meet client’s goal while adhering to the supply chain’s manufacturing tolerances

  • Collaborate with accounts development and project management staff in development of packaging solutions

  • Adapt key design elements to scale to various proportions while maintaining overall design consistency

  • Create production-ready files for global implementation

  • Create 3D Renderings leveraging Esko’s Studio Plug-in for Illustrator

  • Maintain file server for graphic related files

  • Assist in the creation of digital mock-ups

  • Operate Hi-Res Epson Proofer to ensure output of calibrated proof

  • Operate Spectrophotometer to establish color standards and evaluate delta between color samples and the standard

  • Assist in quality management, color management and control process for print production as needed

  • Proofread and quality check graphic and packaging-related designs

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field

  • 2-3 years’ experience in the graphics industry

  • Working knowledge of print production processes and limitations 

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet aggressive deadlines

  • Strong organization skills and high attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple requests in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Supply Chain Color Management experience and high color acuity

  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite

  • Knowledge of GRACoL 7
