Local Broadcast Buyer

Job Description

The Local Broadcast Buyer leads the negotiation and purchase of radio, broadcast, cable, and digital video media buys in support of strategic media planning, client strategy, development, and evolution. This candidate must work well under pressure, confront challenges head on, work well autonomously and in a team environment, show a passion for media and a desire to learn, teach and grow. 

The TV team is responsible for all Radio, Local Video, National Video and International Video buys from RFP to posting, so it is important that this person is willing to step out of their comfort zone to learn all tactics that the team is responsible for. 

Essential Functions 

  • Provide marketplace intel and buying strategies to planning teams 

  • Gather and deliver planning rates and programming grids 

  • Use Nielsen and SQAD to provide ratings and CPPs for planning

  • Consult with planning on best practices / opportunities to accomplish campaign goals

  • Seek out creative opportunities and compile recommendation for planning / clients

  • Negotiate, execute and maintain buys in STRATA

  • Provide buy details for media recommendations

  • Analyze plans, check flowcharts, build buy summaries, track finances

  • Manage invoicing; clearing discrepancies, updating finance trackers and reconciliation with junior level buyer

  • Execute and deliver post reports and insights to planning / clients 

  • Compile weekly programming highlights 

  • Ensure all planning and client deliverables are being met (timelines, goals, budgets, etc.)

  • Point of contact for vendor requests and maintaining relationships

  • Teach Junior level employees in a pleasant and constructive way

Candidate Requirements

  • At least 2-3 years experience in a high-volume broadcast media buying role, with a demonstrated track record of successfully negotiating and placing media buys.

  • You don’t mind being in the weeds and getting your hands dirty to get the job done

  • Exceptional communication skills with a mind for strategic negotiations

  • Organized, multi-tasker that can adapt to changing direction with a positive attitude

  • You know how to maintain relationships with people internally and externally

  • Strong attention to detail 

  • Track record of open and fair negotiations with an excellent reputation 

  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to influence clients and vendors.

  • Demonstrates a strong command of Media Research resources, capabilities and limitations.

  • Able to come up with efficient, creative solutions 

  • You have the Excel chops that even Bill Gates himself would be envious of. 

  • Proficient in SQAD, Nielsen & STRATA is a major plus. 

  • DDS/MBOX/Advantage experience beneficial

  • Some travel and after hours and work required.
