Summary of Position

The Senior Localization Copy Editor is responsible for writing and editing in-game text and voiceover scripts for all Nexon games. They are the editing heavy hitter, assigned to the most impactful text, and can be relied upon to complete the work on time and with flair. They are also responsible for leading their team in deciding new style rules or improvements to old rules. They are responsible for writing and updating various localization process documents, including style guides, NPC documents, story bibles, process guides, proper noun pages, Q’s docs, QA notes, etc. They are also expected to work with the project manager to plan and negotiate schedules, then oversee the editing to make sure it’s on track, coming up with measures to bring it back on track if it’s not. They also work with the lead localization copy editor to review the work of junior localization copy editors.

We are currently working in the office 2-3x a week in a hybrid work model.

Job Responsibilities

  • Edit and culturalize translated game text and voiceover scripts to make them entertaining, immersive, accurate, and relatable to a western audience, to the extent agreed upon with the product owners of each game. Contribute to discussions about text issues in Nexon’s games and other communication channels. Personally edit (or oversee the edits on) the most important parts of an update’s text, plus fix in-game text bugs
  • Create and update various localization documents, including style guides, NPC documents, story bibles, process guides, proper noun pages, Q’s docs, QA notes, etc. Ensure that all documentation for assigned games is updated and regularly reviewed for areas of improvement
  • Assist the lead localization copy editor in reviewing the work of junior localization copy editors and work with the lead localization copy editor and project managers to schedule junior localization copy editors’ work
  • Work with the project managers of their assigned games to plan project schedules, negotiate timelines with other teams, identify and clear roadblocks, and oversee their projects’ editing quality
  • Other duties as assigned

Work Experience

  • 3+ years game-related work experience
  • 5+ years professional writing experience

Education, Professional Training, Technical Training or Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in English preferred
  • Creative writing background preferred

Knowledge/Skills

  • Excellent grammar and copy-editing skills
  • Familiarity with CMoS
  • Ability to edit to specific established voices and styles while faithfully conveying the source material's vision
  • Avid player of anime-style character-collecting mobile games, such as Girls Frontline and Azur Lane
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a busy, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with sharp attention to detail
  • Ability to work well with a variety of stakeholders with differing priorities and requirements
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback
  • Ability to mentor junior editors on style, grammar, consistency, and other localization editing related issues
  • Previous game localization experience required
  • Familiarity with editing game strings with codes, localization QA testing, and text tools/CAT tools
  • Experience editing voiceover scripts and attending voiceover sessions

Compensation Description for Pay Transparency (annually)

The base salary range for this position in El Segundo, CA is $70,000 - $85,00 annually.

Our salary ranges are determined by market data based on position and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum salaries for that position. An individual’s pay is determined by factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s qualifications, skills, experiences, relevant education or training, and location.

Base pay is one part of the Total Rewards package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work. This role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, however the salary range listed in this job posting reflects the base salary only.
