Controller / Director of Finance

Corporate | New York, NY | Full Time

Job Description

Museum of Ice Cream is looking for a dynamic finance/accounting leader to build out a comprehensive in house accounting, financial and legal controls. In this role, reporting directly to MOIC’s co-founder, you'll work with the management team and department heads  to implement effective processes around P&L management, expense tracking and financial reporting and planning. This is a unique opportunity to help lead a rapidly growing company in NYC and across Museum of Ice Cream’s venues globally.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and implement company-wide and department budgets, financial controls, and quarterly and annual planning processes

  • Prepare financial statements, quarterly reports, and other analyses as needed for executive and board-level stakeholders

  • Manage corporate structuring and real estate leases

  • Oversee all corporate accounting functions including revenue, payables, payroll, cost accounting, and financial systems

  • Prepare forecasts, models and other analyses as needed to inform strategic-level company decision making

  • Be responsible for all internal and external financial reporting and analysis for the management team, the Board of Directors, and investors.

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and statutory reporting requirements

  • Develop accounting processes, systems and controls to scale with business growth, including documentation of policies and procedures

  • Manage the monthly close and related reporting process

  • Lead the team through annual audits working closely with the company’s accountants

  • Advise founders on major partnership contract terms

  • Implement revenue recognition policies, expense management, and other financial processes

  • Manage all financial reporting, accounting systems, data integrity, general ledger reporting and optimization, and other compliance issues

WHO YOU ARE:

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (CPA highly recommended)

  • You have technical accounting experience

  • You have a deep working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and key principles of application for a wide array of finance and accounting areas

  • You are detail-oriented with superior organization skills

  • You have 8+ years of finance and accounting experience

  • You are able to manage all necessary third parties and compliance issues

  • You have exceptional organization and accounting skills with obsessive attention to detail

  • You love the intensity of start-up work environments

  • You are a problem-solver and an excellent communicator

  • You have experience dealing with multiple contractors, vendors and service providers

  • You are able to make quick decisions and possess excellent conflict resolution skills

  • You have a strong ability to negotiate with vendors, manage budgets and deal with difficult contractors

  • You have experience with real estate, corporate structuring and dealing with numerous entities
