Tax Specialist

Location: Taylorsville, NC

Position Type: Customer Service

Overview: 

As a Tax Specialist, you will lead and manage tax responsibilities for the company.   A good candidate will have, at minimum, sales and use tax experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure sales taxes are collected and remitted timely

  • Assist in filing monthly sales/use tax related returns and reconciliations accurately and timely

  • Respond to correspondence from tax jurisdictions relating to above items

  • Manage any tax related audits

  • Tax research and documentation

  • Prepare timely tax filings for property tax and any other miscellaneous municipal/state tax filings

  • Complete information needed by external tax accountants to file corporate income tax returns

  • Review income tax returns completed by external tax accountants for obvious errors

  • Manage tax notices and work with external tax accountants to resolve if needed

  • Ensure Capital Asset Records are properly maintained

  • Maintain depreciation records using company software

  • Maintain a comparison of actual capital spend to budgeted spend

  • Analysis and other accounting duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Candidates should thrive and find success within a fast-paced environment. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business preferred

  • At least one year of work experience in a related field such as bookkeeping or tax preparation

  • Proficient in the use of Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Very detail oriented with strong organizational skills

  • Must be self-motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision and work in a team environment when needed

  • Able to multi-task and work under tight deadlines

  • Good communication skills
