Customer Solutions Field Engineer

Radar Systems | Hoffman Estates, IL | Full Time | From $85,000 to $110,000 per year

Job Description

Help customers get the most from MatrixSpace radar systems.

MatrixSpace develops AI-enabled radar and sensing systems that help people understand what's happening in the world around them. By combining advanced radar, edge computing, and AI, we deliver situational awareness in environments where traditional sensing solutions struggle.

We're looking for a hands-on Customer Solutions Field Engineer to help customers and partners successfully deploy, configure, and use MatrixSpace radar systems in demanding real-world environments. You'll be responsible for ensuring our equipment is properly deployed and performs as expected once it reaches the field. You'll work directly with customers to understand their applications, lead or support installation and commissioning when needed, validate system performance, troubleshoot and optimize deployments, train users, and test new capabilities in the field. You'll work closely with engineering, technical sales, and other customer-facing teams to solve technical problems, own field issues through resolution, and bring useful field feedback back into the product.

If you're technically curious, comfortable working directly with customers, and energized by solving problems in the field, we'd love to talk.

What You'll Do

  • Own the technical success of customer deployments, ensuring MatrixSpace equipment is properly installed, commissioned, configured, and performing as expected in the field.
  • Assess customer sites and deployment plans to help ensure sensor placement, coverage, performance, networking, mounting, connectivity, and other system dependencies are appropriate for the intended application.
  • Perform or support installation and commissioning when needed, including system bring-up, configuration, calibration, acceptance testing, and documentation of deployed configurations.
  • Validate field performance against customer requirements and expected system capabilities using hands-on testing, RF and electronic measurement equipment, system data, and sound engineering judgment.
  • Own customer and field issues from initial identification through resolution. Coordinate with engineering when deeper hardware, RF, software, or product changes are required, maintain clear communication and follow-up, and ensure the customer reaches a successful outcome.
  • Train customer personnel on system setup, configuration, operation, performance verification, and troubleshooting so they can use MatrixSpace solutions effectively.
  • Plan and conduct field testing of new features and system improvements, including testing involving drones and aircraft, and document results so engineering teams can verify performance and address issues.
  • Partner with engineering, technical sales, and other customer-facing teams to prioritize customer needs, prepare for deployments and demonstrations, and improve the overall customer experience.

What We're Looking For

This position requires working directly or indirectly with the US Government in restricted environments. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship and may be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance in the future.

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution, with academic or professional knowledge of radio-frequency (RF) principles and systems.
  • 1-3 years of relevant technical experience working with RF, wireless, radar, sensing, electronic, or similarly complex systems in real-world environments.
  • Demonstrated RF knowledge, including practical understanding of antennas, propagation, interference, signal levels, and system-level RF troubleshooting.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex system behavior methodically, isolate root causes, make sound technical recommendations with limited day-to-day direction, and drive issues through resolution.
  • Experience communicating technical information directly with customers and translating between customer needs and engineering teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly, up to 50%, including domestic and international travel as customer and business needs require.
  • Ability to perform field testing approximately 20% of the time, including work involving drones and aircraft, with most field testing occurring locally to the Hoffman Estates area.

Someone Who Will Thrive in This Role

  • Takes ownership of technical problems and follows them through from initial symptoms to a practical resolution.
  • Enjoys working hands-on with real systems rather than solving problems only from a desk.
  • Stays effective when field conditions, customer environments, or technical behavior do not match the original plan.
  • Builds credibility with both technical customers and engineering teams by communicating clearly and grounding recommendations in evidence.
  • Is curious about how systems behave in the real world and looks for patterns that can improve both individual deployments and the product more broadly.

Bonus Points

  • Experience working with radar, mmWave systems, RF sensing, or related wireless technologies.
  • Experience deploying or supporting technical products in customer environments.
  • Familiarity with unmanned aircraft systems, aviation applications, surveillance systems, or other sensing-intensive environments.
  • Experience supporting government, defense, public-safety, or security customers.
  • Personal projects or hands-on technical work involving RF, electronics, drones, robotics, sensing, or related systems.

At MatrixSpace, Customer Solutions Engineering connects our technology to the environments where customers need it to perform. You'll help customers solve real operational problems while giving our engineering teams the field insight they need to make our systems better. If that sounds exciting, we'd love to hear from you.
